Oles Ulianenko is a contemporary Ukrainian prose writer-urbanist, transgressive creator, exceeding in his “modern urban apocalyptic” the boundaries of aesthetics and good taste to show “necrophilic” state of society of the 1980s and 90s, and also to warn against its progressive degradation. Ulianenko’s novels appeal to the reader through the senses, “forcing” the shocked recipient to reflect on the moral degrading of a modern man. The whole range of violent scenes “break out” in the consciousness of the reader through terrifying visual, auditory, tactile, flavor, taste senses and even associations. Ulianenko himself who inquisitively delves into the nature of human evil and for this purpose dazzles the reader with an aesthetic monstrosity to expose that moral monstrosity, perfectly fits into the canon of ’“bearers ofcatastrophic consciousness or rather the provokers of that consciousness in every reader.”
