This study recruited 14 young male participants to examine human 4-h maximum acceptable weight of lifting (MAWL) and maximum weight of lifting (MWL) for different modes of asymmetric lifting and containers. The results showed that asymmetric lifting with trunk rotation decreased MAWL and MWL by 9.1 and 17.3%, respectively, and asymmetric lifting with body turn decreased MAWL and MWL by 6.1%, when compared with the symmetric lifting. The decreasing effects of container width and MAWL and MWL were greater than those of container length. Participants selected MAWL of ~33–37% of their MWL capability.

This paper indicates the repetition of the formation of alliances of shipping companies exhibiting characteristics of cartelization, i.e. the division of markets, well-known from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The article analyzes the cause of the emergence of cartels in the nineteenth century, and points out the repetition of the same causes to the formation of alliances regarding sea container carriers as a result of the economic crisis of 2007.

Particular attention has been paid to the design of functional zones of the intermodal terminal serving both containers as well as swap bodies and semi-trailers. Technical and technological requirements for these zones have been determined. Theoretical example of calculation of selected functional zones of intermodal terminal is presented.

Nowadays, the container shipping industry in Indonesia has a tendency to oligopoly, even in one shipping route. Two big shipping liners in Indonesia, PT. X and PT. Y, have been dominating sales on the Surabaya-Banjarmasin route. The aim of this study is to know how the liners behave in an oligopoly, making decisions that are profitable for both parties. The agreement on challenge, competition, and cooperation between PT. X and PT. Y in serving shipping services is the main focus in this study. The methodology used is a game theory approach to show the possible strategies in rates and supply competition. The result shows that the agreement between PT. X and PT. Y consisted of price decision and supply quantity. The price decision is rated at a lower price of USD 300/TEU where P = MC which has no incentive. While the agreement on supply quantity is 26.000 TEUs in total. Moreover, the cooperative agreement between the shipping liners is a joint allience which not depend on each capacity ratio.

The paper discusses a concept of a modern modular training compound (KOKOS) developed at OBRUM intended for training special forces and uniformed services (police, border guard, fire brigades). Standard ISO containers were used to build the training infrastructure, allowing for variable configuration of rooms. The training compound composed of functional modules is demountable and can be transported on public roads by transport means intended for moving containers. The paper presents several variants of setting up the compound. Mention is made of the versatility and modernizability of the solutions.

Nowadays new unconventional intermodal transport units, which are characterized by dimensions larger than standardized ones, are being developed. This should brink higher utility value of such units. On the other hand this leads to many problems which should be solved. The paper also includes some brief information related to the new project TelliBox. Some unconventional methods of manipulation with transport units are mentioned in the paper as well.

Powinno to podnieść wartość użytkową tych jednostek. Z drugiej strony prowadzi to do wielu problemów, które należy rozwiązać, Artykuł zawiera także informacje na temat nowego projektu o nazwie Tellibox. W pracy scharakteryzowano także pewne niekonwencjonalne metody prac przeładunkowych związanych z jednostkami ładunkowymi.

Purpose: Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was announced by China in 2013. In the initiative, railway lines are operated (Belt), and sea transportation is continuing with sea routes (Road) between China and Europe. The geographical scope of the initiative covering the Chinese-European route is increasing day by day. The purpose of this study is to identify the strategies that container terminals in sea routes need to consider to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Methodology: To achieve the goal, I focused on the criteria that container ship operators considered in port selection as the main user of the container terminals. In the study, a qualitative research process was followed, and data was collected through semi-structured interviews. Results: It is seen that the bilateral agreements between the countries where the ports are located have gained importance especially with China and the other countries involving the initiative. Moreover, it has been determined that the connections with the railway infrastructure will create a competitive advantage. The contribution: The container terminals located on the route have not only enough with classical advantages such as location, equipment, and infrastructure to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. The new criteria found in the study are the areas where the port cannot directly intervene individually. However, the port operator may negotiate with the relevant parties.

W pierwszej części artykułu zostały przedstawione niektóre z kosztów zewnętrznych generowanych przez transport samochodowy w kontekście dyskusji nad kształtem przyszłej sieci transportowej naszego kraju. W tej części prezentujemy, jak należy wykorzystać różne gałęzie transportu lądowego w sposób racjonalny, tak aby tworzyć efektywne, a zarazem spójne i generujące najmniej szkodliwego oddziaływania na środowisko naturalne systemy obsługi transportowej potoków ładunków.

The blowing extrusion is one of the most widely used techniques for the production of hollow plastic products. In order to improve the efficiency of designing plastics processing the blow products from thermoplastic materials used in Computer Aided Engineering software. This paper presents the blowing container simulation with high-density polyethylene (Borealis, BS 2541), using Polyflow software. In the present work was showed the impact of the initial parison geometry distribution onto final wall thickness in the sample container. Two cases of blowing parison were considered. In the first, pre-approved on the basis of a constant parison thickness (g = 2 mm) examined the distribution of the container wall thickness. There has been excessive thinning (between 0,2÷0,3 mm) in the container corners after blowing. On this basis, was made optimization of the parison profile thickness to remove excessive thinning. Noted was a significant effect of the initial extruded parison geometry on the final wall thickness distribution in the considered container. Optimizing the parison profile thickness allowed to eliminate excessive thinning in the corners of container walls. The minimum wall thickness was only 0,9 mm, assuming the final wall thickness of the container to obtain the order of 1mm.

In recent years, the development of container transportation served as a powerful impetus for increasing the length of vehicles, especially road trains, which is due to a number of advantages regarding the transportation of large-sized freight in a container. Today, the whole range of containers is transported by two-link road trains consisting of a tractor vehicle and semi-trailer. The efficiency of such transportation can be increased by means of three-link road trains capable of transporting either three (two 20-foot and one 40- or 45-foot) or four 20-foot containers. This organization of transportation will lead to energy savings and a reduction in environmental pollution due to the reduction of vehicles. However, there is a problem with the maneuverability and stability of such vehicles. The paper developed a kinematic model of three-link road train type “B-triple” with steered axles (front or rear) of semi-trailer dolly with a dual drive control for these axles. Based on folding angles of road train links and drive control transmission ratios of the axles of semi-trailer dolly, the main indicators of road train maneuverability are determined – road train links trajectories displacement relative to the vehicle trajectory and road train overall traffic lane. It was established that when entering a turn with slight differences in folding angles of road train links, the steered axles of semi-trailer dolly turn in the direction opposite to the direction of a turn, thereby reducing the overall traffic lane. During circular motion, the overall traffic lane of road train with steered semi-trailers decreased by almost 2 m, but such road train does not meet the maneuverability requirements. The search for ways to improve the maneuverability of three-link road trains should be sought in the designs of three-link road trains.

V súčasnosti sa vyvíjajú nové nekonvenčné prepravné jednotky intermodálnej dopravy, ktoré sa vyznačujú väčšími rozmermi ako majú klasické, ako aj vyvíjajú nové spôsoby manipulácie. Toto by malo priniesť ich vyššiu úžitkovú hodnotu. Na druhej strane to však prináša mnohé problémy, ktoré je potrebné riešiť, ako sú problémy s ich dopravou po ceste, železnici a vode. Príspevok prináša základné informácie o projekte TelliBox a kontajneroch Innofreight – požiadavky, vývoj, konštrukciu, výhody ako aj kritické miesta.

As the maritime transport of containers continues to grow and container ships change in terms of design and construction, it is important to ensure the appropriate level of safety for this type of transport. Over the decades, the size and cargo capacity of container ships have been changing, and so have their manoeuvring restrictions and required stability criteria. It seems that changes in the regulations, technological development and increased stability requirements are not yielding satisfactory results – the causes of container ship accidents continue to show similar patterns. The present article refers to the problem of ensuring safety in sea container transport, with a particular focus on cargo processes. Its purpose is to determine cause-and-effect relations leading to the loss of containers at sea, and to develop a model of loading that could significantly raise the level of safety of container transport. The article provides a general description of threats to ships related to weather conditions, loading methods or stability limitations. A statistical analysis of the occurrence of damage and/or loss of cargo from container ships was carried out and the risk of cargo loss was assessed on the basis of data from 2015‒2019. A Pareto diagram was used for this purpose. The authors present the concept of the container ship loading model, which may contribute to increasing the safety of shipping in the future.

Techniczne i organizacyjne aspekty bezpieczeństwa związane z powszechnym używaniem kontenera jako jednostki ładunkowej w transporcie morskim oraz pozostałych gałęziach transportu stanowią niezwykle ważny, choć często niezauważany, element w globalnych łańcuchach dostaw. Gestorzy ładunków wynajmując kontener, nie zdają sobie często sprawy z uwarunkowań związanych z techniczną stroną wykorzystania kontenera oraz z konieczności spełnienia przez jego właściciela wymagań bezpieczeństwa wynikających z międzynarodowych konwencji i przepisów.

The aim of the article is to determine if activity of the External Port will contribute to increase the numer of containers passing through the Polish ports. The introduction shows the reason why decision of building the External Port was made. First chapter shows the history of containerization and present-day reality of container transport in Poland and the world. Then it is define what is a port and container terminal. Next, the role of container terminals in modern world trade and the way of their cooperation was determined. The article describes the investments that take, or probably will take place, in the Port of Gdynia. In the end project of building the External Port was analyzed in terms of containers flow.
