Irregularities of a railway track arise mainly during its construction and operation. Principal reasons for the formation and growth of these irregularities are stable deformations of the roadbed ballast. The process that leads to the formation of these irregularities depends on both the construction and the operation condition of a railway track and a ravelling influence of the sleeper subgrade structure around the measurement points e.g. for roadbed testing by a VSS plate. The initial unevenness causes additional railway grid (profile) and railway frame (plane) bending. This bending is increased by longitudinal compressive force arising due to temperature change, rolling stock braking and horizontal deformation of the subsoil (e.g. mining ground). An additional cause for contact loss is the wheel load on curved elastic roadbed. Taking into account the above-mentioned factors a behaviour of a CWR track on the local ballast subgrade unevenness has been analysed in the paper. A problem is solved by taking into account a beam with unilateral and bilateral constraints (full contact or contact loss of the track with the subgrade). The analysis shows, that unevenness can cause a contact loss between the compressed railway track with the locally deformed ballast roadbed. This contact loss causes an unfavourable railway track support condition, which negatively influences the jointless track stability in service. Also, attention in the analysis is given to the possibility of track stability loss in a horizontal plane. The obtained results are essential to the problem of vertical plane analysis of a CWR track in service.
