Background. Physical activity of the prison staff is an important condition of their proper functioning. Material and methods. The research was conducted in April 2015 among 100 of 119 prison staff members from the Biała Podlaska Prison. A diagnostic survey method with the use of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) extended with questions about the free time and self-evaluation of the physical fitness has been used. Results. A satisfactory level of physical activity among the researched staff members was noted. A factor which visibly diversified higher physical activity level was the higher index of self-evaluation of the physical fitness. The amount of leisure time, age, education, or the BMI indicator were not noted to have any influence on this dependency. Conclusions. It should be assumed that the main factor conditioning physical activity of prison staff is their awareness of the role of physical activity as a means to keep a good health.

Wprowadzenie. Aktywność fizyczna funkcjonariuszy Służby Więziennej jest ważnym warunkiem ich prawidłowego funkcjonowania. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w kwietniu 2015 roku wśród 100 funkcjonariuszy Zakładu Karnego w Białej Podlaskiej spośród 119 zatrudnionych. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) z dodaniem pytań o posiadany czas wolny i samooceny sprawności fizycznej. Wyniki.

Scomberomorus guttatus is an economical valuable fish in Pangandaran, West Java, Indonesia. Indeed, the catch of large pelagic fish in Pangandaran water is dominated by Scomberomorus guttatus at around 42.30% of the total production of large pelagic fish in 2015-2017. The purpose of this research is to analyze length-weight relationship and condition factors of Scomberomorus guttatus. The samples were collected in August and September 2018 at Cikidang Fishing Port, Pangandaran Regency, West Java. The Scomberomorus guttatus observed during the research had total length ranging from 205 to 685 mmTL, and the length-weight relationship of Scomberomorus guttatus in Pangandaran water was indicated by the equation W=〖0,0000038L〗^3.0839. Furthermore, the growth pattern of Scomberomorus guttatus is positive allometric (b = 3.0839), meaning that weight growth is faster than length growth, while its condition factor range from 0.52 to 1.54 (average - 1.00 ±0.08).

The aim of this study was to characterise the introduced North American Harris mud crab Rhithropanopeus harrisii, which occurs in the Gulf of Gdańsk, Poland (southern Baltic Sea). Of the 920 specimens caught between 2006 and 2010, males and females made up 44 and 40% respectively, whereas juveniles (<4.4 mm carapace width) comprised 16%. Overall carapace widths ranged from 1.96 mm to 21.40 mm (mean 9.03±4.11 mm). Ovigerous females (mean 11.12±2.76 mm) were present in the population from June to October. Most of the adult specimens collected (n = 158) had carapace widths between 10.1 and 12.0 mm. The wet weight of R. harrisii varied from 0.005 to 4.446 g (mean 0.410±0.569 g). Females exhibited a negative allometric increase in weight (b = 2.77), males an isometric increase in weight (b = 3.02). The condition factor (K) in R. harrisii varied from 0.02 to 0.08 (mean 0.05±0.01).

This study aimed at analyzing the length-weight relationship and the condition factors of Boleophthalmus pectinirostris originating from the Maro estuary, Merauke Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia. This study was conducted for three months, starting from July to September 2018. This study used a purposive sampling method. The sampling of B. pectinirostris was carried out at two stations by using traps and capturing manually. 80 fish of B. pectinirostris were caught during the study. The length size of males 6.5 to 17.5 cm and weight 1.7 to 44.0 g, while the length of females 9.0 to 22.0 cm and weight 5.4 to 91.4 g. The results showed that the length-weight relationship of B. pectinirostris male reached W=0.0112L2.8562 and W = 0.0099L2.8885, while females W = 0.0062L3.0907 and W = 0.0052L3.1211. The length and weight relationship of B. pectinirostris showed negative allometric for male (b<3) and positive allometric for female (b>3). The condition factor value of B. pectinirostris for males and females ranged from 0.837 to 2.266, and 0.689 to 1.259, respectively.

In this study, the total mercury concentration was determined in the muscles, liver and gills of six fish species (rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss Walb., carp Cyprinus carpio L., bream Abramis brama L., perch Perca fluviatilis L., ide Leuciscus idus L. and flounder Platichthys flesus L.). The fish were acquired from October to November 2012. Mercury was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry using thermal decomposition, compounds of mercury and amalgamation. The mercury content in fish organs reached 0.006-0.168 (in mg kgˉ¹ wet weight) in muscles, 0.001-0.027 in gills and 0.003-0.045 in the liver. The muscles of perch and ide had significantly more Hg compared to the other fish’s muscles (P≤0.05). The liver and gills of perch, ide and flounder contained more Hg than the same tissues of the other fish (P≤0.05). Generally, the highest Hg content was determined in muscles (except rainbow trout) (P≤0.05), whereas the lowest Hg content was found in gills (except perch) (P≤0.05). The content of Hg in gills of perch did not differ from the one in the liver (P>0.05). There was a positive correlation between the weight or length of a fish and the Hg concentration in its tissues, except for the length and Hg in the gills of carp. However, a statistically significant positive correlation between the body weight and the Hg levels in fish appeared only in the case of the organs of ide (P≤0.004) and muscles of carp (P≤0.038). The correlation between the factor condition and the content of Hg, albeit positive (0.106 < r < 0.811) except for the organs of flounder, was not statistically significant (P>0.05).
