Content available remote Niepewność instytucjonalnych nabywców oprogramowania komputerowego
100%
PL

The purpose of this article is to analyze the reasons why the institutional purchasers are uncertain while buying computer software and to discuss the methods of reducing this uncertainty. The article is a theoretical introduction to the analysis of the results of uncertainty research felt by persons purchasing software on behalf of the financial institutions. The uncertainty can be defined as a subjectively perceived probability (possibility) of the future occurrence of some incidents, which may influence the consequences of the decisions taken by the given subject. The most useful classification of uncertainty from the point of view of the transactions under scrutiny seems to be the division proposed by M. Kleinaltenkamp and W. Plinke dividing the uncertainty into the internal and external one. The uncertainty of the institutional software buyers seems to exert a considerable influence on the concluded transactions owing to the consequences connected with purchasing software and the very specificity of those transactions. This uncertainty can be reduced, although it is not easy.

In the paper, a computer tool called ROSECON, used for modeling and analyzing systems of concurrent processes, is described. A special attention is focused on synthesis and verification of concurrent systems specified by information systems. Two kinds of models, synchronous and asynchronous, are considered. In the first approach, all processes included in the modeled system are synchronized globally whereas in the second one, each process is synchronized individually. The presented tool allows generating automatically an appropriate model of a system of concurrent processes, in the form of colored Petri nets, from the specification given by an information system. Analysis of the model behaviors enables users to verify the correctness and/or optimality of the obtained models and to provide some modification procedures to get correct and/or more optimal solutions. Examples of selected well known problems in concurrency, in the paper, emphasize usefulness of the tool in the designing systems of concurrent processes.

The aim of the study was to analyze practices of clinical photographic documentation management among plastic surgeons in Poland as well as to gain their opinion about the characteristics of “ideal” software for images archiving. Material and methods. The on-line survey link was send (via e-mail) to all members of Polish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. From 187 members, 86 subjects (47.5%, 54 men and 32 women, of the mean age 40.8 years ± 10.6 years) filled in the on-line questionnaire, which constitutes a representative sample of plastic surgeons practicing in Poland. Results. The study showed that only 7% of plastic surgeons use IT applications dedicated to archiving photographs. Instead, more than half of them store photos in ordered folders on computers. The majority of respondents (89.3%) are interested in using a dedicated computer application to archive photographic documentation. The most important features, which an application of this type should have are (265 answers): quick search (26%), easy to use (24%), quick data entry (22%), data security (15%), an ability to print selected data (7%), availability only to authorized employees of the unit (5%). Conclusions. Cooperation of health care providers with informatics may lead to the conceptualization of a program fulfilling the requirements of specific medical groups. On the basis of the questionnaire study we have collected the data necessary to create the concept of the unique software that would be useful for clinical practice of plastic surgeons as well for other specialists dealing with photographic documentation.

The aim of the paper is to present an analysis of the use of statistical methods and tools in scientific articles related to socio-economic geography and spatial management published in the years 2012–2021. In order to evaluate the intensity and diversity of this phenomenon, a query was carried out using the Web of Sciences electronic academic information database. A preliminary literature search led to the decision to focus on papers published in three selected journals relating to social geography (Geoforum), economic geography (Applied Geography) and spatial management (Landscape and Urban Planning). The paper analyses the variety of the statistical tools used in the studies presented in the aforementioned journals. The frequency and type of the applied statistical methods, computer software and computing tools is correlated with the specificity of the research area.

Tabular Expressions are means to represent the complex relations that are used to specify or document software systems. A formal model and a semantics for tabular expressions are presented. The model covers most known types of tables used in software engineering, and admits precise classification and definition of new types of tables. The practical importance of the semantics of tabular expressions is also discussed.

Parsing Expression Grammar (PEG) encodes a recursive-descent parser with limited backtracking. The parser has many useful properties. Converting PEG to an executable parser is a rather straightforward task. Unfortunately, PEG is not well understood as a language definition tool. It is thus of a practical interest to construct PEGs for languages specified in some familiar way, such as Backus-Naur Form (BNF). The problem was attacked by Medeiros in an elegant way by noticing that both PEG and BNF can be formally defined in a very similar way. Some of his results were extended in a previous paper by this author. We continue here with further extensions.

Both in the classroom as well as on the computer screen pupils can apply similar strategies of dealing with tasks (with difficult situation). For this reason multimedia programs for learning mathematics treated are as educational alternative manner of the forming amongst children abilities of solving problems. Domain of computer programs is better adapting the level of difficulty of tasks to individual possibilities of each of users. It seems that contemporary multimedia programs are effective (Kaczmarek, 2003; Watoła, 2006; Raszka, 2008). However from conducted research which are taking into account behavior of pupils while using the computer is pointing out to the uncertainty in this belief. It turns out that abilities acquired while using the multimedia program of children aren't transferring for solving problems in tasks of the paper-pencil type (Kengfeng, 2008).

In this paper we investigate the use of abstract interpretation techniques for statically preventing race conditions. To this purpose we enrich the concurrent object calculus concV by annotating terms with the set of ``locks'' owned at any time. We use an abstract form of the object calculus to check the absence of race conditions. We show that abstract interpretation is more flexible than type analyses, and it allows to certify as ``race free'' a larger class of programs.

We study, on the basis of a simple neural–network like system that we call a spatial network, how several properties of two evolvable systems: a nervous system and computer software, could influence on the evolvability of a genetic algorithm. The following properties are modelled: hierarchical modularity, mirroring, extensive variability and quantitative genetic traits. By mirroring we understand mimicking of the structure of processed data by the structure of the processing algorithm. We estimate the evolvability of several examples of the presented networks, which perform simple image processing tasks, like stereo–to–depth. The evaluation is done by studying the size of these networks' genotype.

The paper is concerned with a class of knowledge-based pattern recognition systems with logical representation. In this case the knowledge representation has the form of the facts - the logical formulae and for the generation of the solution we can use the logic-algebraic method. The purpose is to present a formulation and solution algorithms of the multi-level knowledge-based pattern recognition problem for the system as a whole and for the subsystems. Both approaches are compared. A simple example illustrating the general method is presented. In practice, this method is implemented in MESS software.

The use of computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) for the organization and analysis of qualitative data has been a hotly debated topic among qualitative researchers since the inception of the technology in the 1980s (Smith & Hesse-Biber, 1996; and Bong, 2002). Proponents of the software claim that QDAS can help strengthen the validity, reliability, and accuracy of data analysis, whereas critics have cautioned that the use of such software distances the researchers from the data and attempts to make the data objective (Saldaña, 2013). The debates surrounding the use of qualitative software have contributed to a lack of student training in academic settings. Consequently, few studies have examined the student experience and decision-making process regarding the use of QDAS in the university setting (Paulus, Woods, Atkins, & Mackin, 2015). Using reflective response data collected from participants of a beginner qualitative coding workshop, this paper adds to the limited literature on student experiences using QDAS by examining gender differences in how participants critically reflected on their first experience using QDAS and examines the likelihood that participants would use QDAS in their future work. Findings from this study indicate that participants who used QDAS for the first time perceived that there are more potential benefits to using QDAS versus manual coding. Gender differences were present with female participants strongly believing that the software would allow them to be more effective and efficient researchers, and male participants believing that they would be better able to gain deeper insights into their data.
