The analytical procedure of thiamine quantification in premixtures and compound feedingstuffs by HPLC method is presented. Thiamine was extracted from feed samples with 0.1M hydrochloric acid at 100°C for 30 min. In the case of compound feedingstuffs, 10% Taka-diastase solution was added to the samples, and then the samples were incubated at 37°C for 17 h. Afterwards, thiamine was oxidised to thiochrom, using 1% alkaline potassium ferricyanide (III). The filtrated solution was analysed by HPLC with isocratic flow of eluent chloroform-methanol 90:10 (v/v). The measurement was done by a fluorescence detector. This method has been applied for the quantification of the total content of thiamine in compound feedingstuffs, as well as added thiamine in the form of hydrochloride or nitrate salt. The limit of the quantification of this method was determined on the level of 1 mg/kg. The coefficient variation of thiamine quantification results in premixţures samples was 3.7%, and in compound feedingstuffs was 5.56%. The Horrat value for premixture samples reached a value of 0.60, whereas in the case of compound feedingstuffs it was 0.63, thus confirming acceptable precision of the procedure. The recovery rate for thiamine added in the form of hydrochloride was 102.3% in premixes and 98.9% in compound feedingstuffs. The recovery rate for thiamine added in the form of nitrate salt to compound feedingstuffs was similar and reached a value equal to 98.7%.

Możliwość zastosowania w żywieniu zwierząt ziarna nagich odmian owsa, charakteryzujących się dużą koncentracją energii i białkiem o wysokiej wartości biologicznej, jest ograniczona obecnością polisacharydów nieskrobiowych - zwłaszcza β-glukanów. Eksperyment przeprowadzono na 98 kurczętach rasy Starbro podzielonych na 7 grup żywieniowych otrzymujących izoenergetyczne i izobiałkowe mieszanki o zróżnicowanym poziomie owsa nagiego. Trzy mieszanki zawierały enzym Avizyme 1100 (Finfeeds Int.)

The possibility of using genetically naked oats, which naturally contain high levels of energy and protein of high biological availability, is limited because of the presence of non-starch polysaccharides - especially β-glucanes. The experiment was conducted on 98 Starbro chickens alloted to 7 feeding groups receiving isoenergetic and isoprotein diets that differed in the level of naked oats. Three feeds were supplemented with Avizyme 1100 (Finnfeeds Int.). The reported study indicated that 20-40 percent inclusion of the naked oats in broiler diets does not have any significant influence on the basic production parameters, while utilisation of the oats as the only grain ingredient in the diets (66,7 percent) substantially worsenes the success rates. Supplementation of the feeds with β-glucanase enzyme eliminates all of the negative effects of the anti-nutritional factors of the oats and allows unlimited utilisation of the genetically naked oats in broiler diets that were formulated according to their nutrient levels and 'the birds needs.

The paper presents the analytical procedure of organic acids quantification in compound feed by ion chromatography method. Organic acids: acetic, propionic, formic, malic, fumaric, and citric were extracted from a feed sample with water for 30 min. The measurement was done by conductometric detection. The limit of quantification of the assayed acids in the feeds was as follows: acetic 0.50 g/kg, propionic 0.63 g/kg, formic 0.45 g/kg, malic 0.45 g/kg, fumaric 0.50 g/kg, and citric 0.45 g/kg. The coefficient of variation ranged from 0.40% to 1.68% and its mean value was 0.82%. Mean Horrat ratio amounted to 0.35, thus confirming very good precision of the method. The recovery rate of the acids added to the compound feed ranged from 97.2% to 102.5%, with the average of 99.4%.
