In the article, the author criticizes the source analysis of the moment of crossing one's own consciousness towards another consciousness, pointing out its inability to reach the other directly. The other, as someone close, not only cannot become the object of intentional observation, but also falls outside the scheme of the I-thou encounter described by the philosophy of dialogue. The phenomenon of the close other does not appear as an object of observation, because it tightly fills the entire horizon. It is too close to constitute itself as a separate object. However, this is not about some excess of the phenomenal that paralyzes cognitive faculties. Rather, one can speak of a phenomenal fullness that does not exceed the maximum of what can be received by consciousness. This phenomenon is called here the optimal phenomenon. It determines the measure of a certain optimal state, which consists in the ideal synchrony of consciousness and what is given. Closeness is something that is always known, something that falls into the ready register of our structural sensitivity, as if we had some special sense for experiencing closeness. We always retain some memory of the closeness we once experienced, even in a situation where we are forced to live exclusively in formalized social relations based on the principle of distance.
