Eksperyment tribologiczny polega na celowym wywoływaniu tarcia oraz obserwacji jego przebiegu i skutków. Ten podstawowy sposób badań tarcia ciał stałych wciąż nie spełnia oczekiwań nauki i techniki i wymaga istotnej ewolucji. Kierunki przeobrażeń wynikają z aktualnych zadań i poziomu tribologii oraz potrzeb tribotechniki.

The critical assessment of the tribological experiment state at the background of present tasks of tribology has been given in the paper. A concept of redefinition of some tribological terms considering current level of understanding of phenomenology of friction and wear has been suggested. At the background of analysis of current state and potential of prediction mathematical modelling of friction, wear and failure a postulate of complementary development of phenomenological, mathematical, physical an tribological experiment has been put forward. The influence of dynamic characteristics of tribometer on the course of dynamic friction and wear has been documented with results of own experimental study.
