This study recruited 16 industrial workers to examine the effects of material, weight, and base area of container on reduction of grip force (ΔGF) and heart rate for a 100-m manual carrying task. This study examined 2 carrying materials (iron and water), 4 carrying weights (4.4, 8.9, 13.3, 17.8 kg), and 2 base areas of container (24 ´ 24 cm, 35 ´ 24 cm). This study showed that carrying water significantly increased ΔGF and heart rate as compared with carrying iron. Also, ΔGF and heart rate significantly increased with carrying weight and base area of container. The effects of base area of container on ΔGF and heart rate were greater in carrying water condition than in carrying iron condition. The maximum dynamic effect of water on ΔGF and heart rate occurred when water occupied ~60%–80% of full volume of the container.

The handling of 2,306 boxes being loaded or unloaded from vans onto or from 4-wheeled trolleys by 31 handlers in a warehouse were characterized. Handling was videotaped and characterized through an analysis grid completed by three trained observers. The following execution parameters were observed: nature of the exertion applied by the upper limbs, plane and direction of the exertion, resulting displacement of the box, grip, use of the lower limbs and the back. Results show that execution parameters used by handlers vary considerably from those usually recommended or studied. For example, symmetric grips were rarely used (4%). The grip was modified during the handling of half the boxes. Significant knee flexion was rarely observed (3% of exertions). Each box was moved by applying an average of . 3.5 different exertions. Exertions were mostly applied in a plane parallel to the shoulders; they were rarely executed in a strict sagittal plane (11%). The implication of these observations are discussed.

This investigation concerns the estimation of selected use properties of terry woven fabrics destined for towels. The aim of this investigation was to find out how the level of two usability features, the water sorption ability and the handle, depends on the kind of raw material, the woven fabric’s structure and the fabric’s finish. 10 kinds of terry woven fabrics with classical three-weft weaves were investigated. The estimation was carried out on the basis of elaborated radial diagrams of the terry fabrics’ determined parameters.

Prezentowane badania dotyczyły oceny wybranych właściwości użytkowych tkanin frotowych przeznaczonych na ręczniki. Celem badań było poszukiwanie zależności między rodzajem surowca, strukturą tkaniny, wykończeniem wyrobu, a poziomem spełnienia dwóch cech: wodochłonności i chwytu. Obiektem badań było 10 rodzajów tkanin frotowych o klasycznych splotach trzywątkowych.
