In the course of originating hop production dated from the early Middle Ages, systematic biological progress took place, which enabled to obtain the raw material of better quality characteristics. At frist the selection was practised and since the middle of 19th century, the methods of breeding were introduced, too. Aromatic hop cultivars of Czech origin were cultivated in Poland mainly till the seventieths of 20th century. As the result of breeding works performed after this period, 9 original hop cultivars were registered and 2 foreign alpha cultivars were selected. It is anticipated that the further breeding works would be related to increasing the contents of chemical components important for brewing technology as well as to obtaining dwarf hop cultivars.
