The gathered conclusions helped the students to find exact solutions to the existing in Winogrady residential area problems. The buildings of Castorama and Kaufland were found nondescript and boring and not fit to the existing surroundings. So as to look for the new architectural form and the new, morę desirable function of these buildings, the students put a lot of efforts in the design process. The solutions were really interesting: Castorama was converted into the centre of recreation and cultural function with the fresh exterior image and new division of the inner space. That idea was presented as the model-idea for the revitalization of that kind of buildings.

In recent years, Piotrków Trybunalski has been enriched by an exceptional building of an innovative character. Designed by Daniel Frac, the 800th Anniversary Mediatheque is an innovative building and perhaps the most important architectural work in the region. This article presents a case study of the Piotrków mediatheque. Analysing it in a broader context, it is possible to pose a thesis on the re-evaluation of this type of facility. Their previous role as library and digital centres is changing more into an interactive centre of knowledge and culture. The article points out the role such buildings play in medium-sized and small towns and addresses the issue of architectural form and its symbolism.

Piotrków Trybunalski wzbogacił się w ostatnich latach o wyjątkowy obiekt o innowacyjnym charakterze. Zaprojektowana przez Daniela Frąca Mediateka Osiemsetlecia to nowatorski obiekt oraz być może najważniejsze dzieło architektoniczne w regionie. W artykule zostało przedstawione studium przypadku mediateki piotrkowskiej. Jej analiza w szerszym kontekście pozwoliła na postawienie tezy o przewartościowaniach w ramach tego rodzaju obiektów. Dotychczasowa ich rola jako centrów biblioteczno-cyfrowych zmienia się bardziej w interaktywne centrum wiedzy i kultury. W artykule wskazano rolę, jaką tego rodzaju obiekty odgrywają w średnich i małych miastach, a także podjęto zagadnienie formy architektonicznej i jej symboliki.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące funkcjonowania przestrzeni publicznej o charakterze kulturalnym oraz jej integrację z systemem przestrzeni miejskich na przykładzie Chojnic. Kontemplacja nad wszystkimi zagadnieniami – tożsamości, kultury w mieście, aspektów społecznych przestrzeni publicznej – opiera się na projekcie zagospodarowania przestrzeni wokół Chojnickiego Centrum Kultury. W przedstawionym obszarze zauważa się brak aktywności społecznych, zamknięcie działalności kulturalnej wewnątrz obiektu, brak tożsamości miejsca oraz funkcjonalnej integracji ze strukturą miasta. Ponadto działania władz miejskich na rzecz poprawy stanu obszaru dotyczą wyłącznie modernizacji obiektu wraz z projektem zagospodarowania przestrzeni w funkcję parkingową. Zauważa się także brak powiązań pomiędzy przestrzeniami o potencjale kulturowym. Zakres projektu obejmuje część analityczną oraz część projektową. W pierwszej części oparto się na literaturze dotyczącej przestrzeni publicznych oraz – w części analiz fizyczno-geograficznych – na dokumentach sporządzanych dla obszaru miasta. Analizy społeczne oraz gospodarcze poparto danymi Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego. Ostatecznym rezultatem niniejszego opracowania jest projekt zagospodarowania przestrzeni przy Chojnickim Centrum Kultury. Na potrzeby odpowiedniego funkcjonowania obszarów o podobnej funkcji publicznej w mieście, stworzono także koncepcję spójnego systemu przestrzeni, za pomocą powiązań przestrzennych i funkcjonalnych, na bazie istniejącego potencjału.

In this article it is considered the functioning of art public space and its connection with all structure on the example of Chojnice city. The contemplation is based on a development project for the public space around the Chojnice Cultural Center. In this area it could be noticed that there is no social activities, identity and integration between the space and the city. Another problem is unavailability of a culture for all the society, because of its introversion into the culture institutes. Furthermore, the operations of local authorities refer only to modernization of Cultural Centre building. The thesis contains two main parts, the first one - analyses, and the second one - the project of the space. The first part focused on natural environmental analyses was based on documents containing environmental information relating to the Chojnice city. Social review was made of the basis of available statistical data, and finally spatial analyses resulted from an on-site verification. The ultimate result of this study is spatial development project for area of Centre for Culture in Chojnice city,which was based on analyses and adapted to existing local conditions . The added value was a project of system of public spaces based on relationship between each other.
