Artykuł dotyczy poszukiwania formuły definiowania bezpieczeństwa. Stanowić to powinno etap wstępny procesu jego konceptualizacji. Formuła wyjaśniania pojęć jest elementem koniecznym dla prawidłowego i zarazem komunikatywnego wysłowienia kategorii bezpieczeństwa. Specyfiką nauk społecznych jest dość duża umowność, a niekiedy dowolność dookreślania pojęć. Nic to dziwnego, ponieważ mówiąc o bezpieczeństwie kierujemy się jego poczuciem. Jest ono trudno mierzalne i subiektywne. Zbiega się z tym fakt, że istota bezpieczeństwa pozostaje względna. Autor zwraca uwagę na potrzebę doprecyzowywania i dookreślania jego pojęcia, jako obszernej kategorii pojęciowej w nauce i życiu społecznym. Zwraca uwagę na rosnący zakres znaczeń nadawanych bezpieczeństwu. Reguły jego definiowania wciąż będą stanowić istotny problem. Wraz z dokonującą się złożonością współczesnego świata, deskrypcyjna formuła wyjaśniania pojęć z pewnością zachowa swą istotność i pozostawać będzie aktualną.

The article’s main objective is an examination of the possible formulas defining security. Author evaluates this problem as the preliminary step, in process of security conceptualization. In this view, the methodological explanation of concepts is a necessary element leading to proper and communicative expression of various security categories. The specificity of the social sciences present fullness of conventionalities and sometimes-arbitrary determinations of terms. It is not surprising, since discussing different aspects of security; we tend to define it monolithically by sense of insecurity. It is, therefore, difficult to evaluate its subjectively named values in an objective manner. With this, another problem is corollary, fact that the essential security norms are relative. The author draws attention to the need for clarification, and proper formative evaluation of its definition as a comprehensive conceptual category, in science and social life. He draws attention to the growing range of meanings form lated for security descriptions. Finding the rules defining it, seems to be a significant problem. It is so, because of various complexities of the modern world, and the descriptive formulas explaining security concerns also change. If they are to be relevant in a discussion, the proper definitions must be current.
