This article presents the findings of research into time accessibility of Szadek, analysed from individual transport perspective. In terms of spatial extent, the study covers the area of Łódź voivodeship. All analyses presented in the article were carried out in February 2015. The methods of time accessibility assessment used in this study include cumulative accessibility, transport-settlement efficiency ratio, and indicators based on the range and shape of ideal and theoretical isochrones. It has been assumed, for research purposes, that traffic regulations are the only factor affecting the speed of vehicle movement between Szadek and the remaining 43 towns of the region.

Porównano własności logistyczne i handlowe transportu samochodowego i kolejowego. Wymieniono ich cechy i podano argumenty, które przemawiają na korzyść transportu kolejowego. Stwierdzono ponadto, że poprawę sytuacji transportowej w Polsce można osiągnąć przez zwiększenie liczby przewozów kombinowanych, w tym zwłaszcza wprowadzenie przewozów samochodowych na platformach kolejowych. Obecnie przewozy kombinowane w Polsce ograniczają się do przewozu kontenerów dostarczanych i ekspediowanych drogą morską. W innych krajach stosuje się przewóz samochodów ciężarowych na platformach kolejowych.

Compared are logistic and commercial properties of car and railway transports. Mentioned are their specific features and given are arguments which say for the railway transport. Moreover, it is ascertained that transport situtation in Poland can be improved only by increasing the importance of combined transport and especially by implementation of a system enabling transportation of trucks on lorries. At present, combined transport in Poland is limited only to transportation of containers delivered and forwarded by sea while in other countries the system of transporting trucks on lorries is in use.
