Systematic approach to class diagrams construction that may be applied in different phases of software development is presented. The focus is on business modelling. An informal description of fragment of an application domain that defines operational environment of a system is a starting point to the modelling. Definition of a domain glossary, identification of candidate roles, definition of business rules and constraints, elaboration of collaboration diagrams, enhancement of roles with attributes and operations, and derivation of candidate classifiers are the main activities performed during the business modelling. The set of candidate classifiers forms the base to an iterative procedure of generation of class diagrams that are to be verified by an expert of an application domain. Fragments of a simple case study illustrate the presented approach.

The process of requirements specification usually begins with understanding the environment, which a designed system will work in. A main source of knowledge about the environment is often given in a form of textual descriptions. Processing such texts by analysts is liable to errors and misinterpretations. The article presents an outline of a tool assisting the process of conceptualisation of reality through automatic analysis of a textual description with the use of techniques of natural language processing. The tool identifies errors and ambiguities in the text, creates a model of its meaning and, on such basis, generates a business model consisting of UML use-case diagrams and class diagrams.

The concepts of business models of contemporary organizations are discussed. The necessity is enhanced of their transformations, of acquiring the capacity of an efficient and elastic functioning in the dynamic environment. It has been stated that a real transformation of an organization is not possible without understanding the need for radical changes also in the approach to computer information application, particularly what concerns the introduction of computer information assisted processes. Facing this new real challenge requires a reconstruction of enterprises. Purposes of such reconstruction should be: subordinating internal activities to principles of computer information technologies, understanding new models of actions and assuring a profound honesty towards the customers. The new principles should become an integral part of the model of organizational structure of the enterprise. In the article the most important goals are characterized that will be implemented by organizations of the future, first of all by: learning, virtual and network, biological, fractal, holonic, holographic and hypertext organizations.
