Regardless of the constantly increasing time man is spending in a sitting position, there is still a lack of objective chair quality assessment criteria. The aim of this paper is to find the answer to whether respiratory chest movement measurements can be a chair quality indicator. The study included 34 participants (mean 34.7 years ± 5.2). Their chest movements were assessed using respiratory inductive plethysmography while sitting on two subsequent chairs. Significant differences in chest movements depending on chair type were observed concerning the breathing duct (upper and lower) and breathing movement amplitude. The amplitude of the upper respiratory track in the first chair was higher (239.4 mV) compared with the second seat (207.3 mV) (p = .018). The analyzed parameters of respiratory chest movement may become a helpful indicator for design and selection of chairs which enable people to both work and relax in the most ergonomic conditions.

Emotions are one of the most fascinating and difficult aspects of human experience, and have received significant attention in biblical studies. This paper explores how one Hebrew lexeme, rûaḥ, provides a point of entry into the complex world of how emotions are expressed in ancient texts. Drawing from some insights of Cognitive Linguistics, it examines the use of rûaḥ to express the experience of impatience and patience, and arrogance and humility. This paper then challenges a long-held but simplistic equation of rûaḥ with anger, and argues that a more nuanced and complex relationship exists between lexeme and emotion than most citations in scholarship suggest.

The teaching about the Holy Spirit, and especially about His eternal procession is built upon his writings; and beside the biblical inspiration he received a special gift of the Spirit „who spoke trough the prophets”. His aboundant message is invaluable not only for theology, but also to her shoot, which should be spirituality, first of all the priestly and seminarian one, all the more because John was the only unmarried apostle, becoming – also in this respect – a paragon for the Roman Catholic clergy.

The analysis made in this article shows that the usage of the word rûaḥ in Genesis and Exodus fits with the general meanings linked to the word in other books of the Bible. In general usage this word describes, first, wind, albeit seen as 'a tool in the hand' of God used during redemptive activities to save life, life in general or that of Israel. Next rûaḥ means life, such as that present in a human being as a gift from God, which can be taken back. Finally, rûaḥ also means a charismatic strength given by God to chosen people, and that which is internal to man, his states of spirit and emotion. All of those meanings have their specificity, which is most clearly visible in so-called biblical prehistory (Gen 1:2, 3:8, 6:3, 8:1).

Analiza dokonana w tym artykule pokazuje, że zastosowanie słowa rûaḥ w księgach Rodzaju i Wyjścia mieści się w ogólnych znaczeniach łączonych z nim także w innych księgach biblijnych. Słowem tym opisuje się więc tu wiatr, zawsze jednak widziany jako „narzędzie w ręku” Boga, używane podczas działań zbawczych na rzecz ocalenia życia w ogóle lub Izraela. Potem rûaḥ oznacza samo życie obecne w człowieku i stanowiące dar od Boga, który może zostać odebrany. Wreszcie rûaḥ oznacza również charyzmatyczna siłę, udzielaną przez Boga wybranym ludziom, i to, co wewnętrzne w człowieku, jego stany ducha oraz emocje. Każde z tych znaczeń ma swoją specyfikę, najbardziej widoczną zwłaszcza w tzw. prehistorii biblijnej (Rdz 1,2; 3,8; 6,3; 8,1).

Pulmonary sarcoidosis may progress to fibrosis in some patients, so that close monitoring of its activity is essential for recommending clinical strategy. Examination of ariway inflammatory markers in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is one of the methods applied to assess the disease severity. Recently, the expired breath condensate (EBC) has become another source of cytokines and mediators. In sarcoidosis, except for NO and oxidative stress markers, no other mediators have yet been estimated in the exhaled air. In the present study we attempted to answer the question of whether airway inflammatory markers in pulmonary sarcoidosis patients might be assessable in EBC and to what extend these markers might reflect the disease activity in the lungs IL-6, TNF-alpha, PAI-1, and IGF-1 were measured by Elisa method in EBC and BALF samples from 9 patients with newly-diagnosed pulmonary sarcoidosis. TNF-alpha, IGF-1, and PAI-1 levels in EBC and BAL samples were comparable and closely positively correlated [TNF-alpha (r=0.79, P<0.001), IGF-1 (r=0.94, P<0.001), and PAI-1 (r=0.81, P<0.001)]. In contrast, IL-6 concentration in EBC was significantly lower compared with that in BALF, while the correlation between both materials was negative (r=-0.47, P<0.05). An important distinction in IL-6 performance, which might explain this inconsistency, is its tendency to form more complex molecular forms of a higher weight than that of other cytokines. Our study shows that EBC reflects cytokine production in the lung as effectively as BALF, providing that the characteristics of proteins evaluated allow their easy transfer into the exhaled air. Further studies are required before accepting EBC samples as an equivalent to BALF.
