Brass powder production process by precipitating in saline solutions was investigated and the results are presented. As a charge material cleaned copper scale was used which is a waste product in some metallurgical processes. For scale dissolving, two solutions of different chemical composition were prepared. At an early stage of the process, partial copper precipitation from the solution, in the form of powder, occurred. By adding a suitable amount of zinc to the remaining solution, composite Cu-Zn powders containing 10, 20 and 30% Zn were prepared. Upon annealing at 650 degrees centigrade the brass powders were obtained. Properties and microstructure of all the powders as well as density and microstructure of the as-sintered specimens were evaluated. Proposed method proved to be useful in utilizing metallurgical waste as a charge material for the brass powder production.
