The article presents a concise report on the experience gained in the last three years in the scope of network provision of bibliographic databases by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and full-text humanities and medical databases by EBSCO Publishing. The authors emphasise the importance and impact of the programme and the databases, co-financed by the State Committee for Scientific Research, on the initiation and continuation of organisational activities and efficient database access management. The paper contains a short review of the information resources presently available, including the titles of bibliographic and full-text databases, the scope of licences, subscription periods, and the volumes of archival resources. It provides statistics illustrating the distribution and extent of the bibliographic database usage by the scientific community, including, active institutional and individual, users and discusses the hardware and software used to provide the network database access services, the availability conditions, as well as the rules of license renewal and co-financing by the interested institutions. The report also deals with the access conditions and abilities to the electronic versions of humanities, economics and medical databases offered by EBSCO Publishing. It is vital to show the structure of the service, the scope of subjects available in the databases, title estimation and the access to html, as well as image source types. Moreover, the report focuses on the modes of access to single database and to several of them simultaneously, as well as on multi-aspect searching with the use of the author and subject indexes and keywords.

The theme of the article is focused on creating aPolish citation database POL-index in the context of cooperation between the various data providers: the editors / publishers of journals and bibliographic databases. It presents the concept of the POL-index and the Polish Impact Coefficient as well as the related legal acts, POL-index management and its contents. It also explains the experiences of bibliographic databases creators associated with transmission of metadata of the articles from scientific journals to POL-the index. The article indicates the best practices of these activities of BazTech database, especially the various aspects of cooperation with the journal editors. The aim of the article is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of cooperation between different partners in creating of POL-index, opportunities and threats for further development of the system itself, as well as bibliographic databases. The method of literature’s analysis, primary source and statistical data were used. Conclusions — The most important strengths of the cooperation in the POL-index are benefits for databases, including greater timeliness and completeness of data as well as an increase of importance of these services. The weaknesses were: inconsistencies in the law, lack of satisfactory information among publishers, diversity of data formats and frequent changes of POL-index operators. The key opportunity is the potential of the bibliographic databases, which may constitute the core of POL-index, and the threat — lower rate of completeness of the citations in the POL-index.

The types of natural and agricultural science resources contained in the AGRO database have been characterized and their dynamic development in qualitative and quantitative terms in 2009–2016 has been described. In addition, types of database records are presented, with justification for their differentiation by: records containing only a bibliographic description of the article, bibliographic records along with authors’ affiliations, records with, in addition to the aforementioned elements, summaries and attachment bibliographies and records of the highest information value, most frequently searched by database users, in other words records containing full texts of articles. Furthermore, the database recipients and their information and search preferences based on surveys are defined. The use of AGRO in Poland and abroad is considered based on selected statistical data. The AGRO database development plans are discussed depending on the acquisition of funds for its maintenance and quantitative development and the multiplication of records with full texts.

This paper reports on research conducted in March 2014 on two databases: the Web of Science and Scopus. These bibliographic databases provide information on publications, citations and other metrics. This research focused mainly on publications from Central and Eastern Europe, indexed in these databases from 2000 to 2013. The same queries produced different results on the number of publications and two bibliometric factors (citations and the Hirsch index), which were then compared and analysed. The results illustrate the differences between the databases and contribute to the discussion on how the number of citations is influenced by the ways of searching, the impact of Open Access and multiple affiliations.

Wpisując te same zapytania otrzymano różne wyniki dotyczące liczby publikacji i wskaźników bibliometrycznych: liczby cytowań i indeks Hirsch’a.

W pracy zaprezentowano przykłady słów kluczowych wybranych publikacji z zakresu elektromagnetyzmu i bhp zindeksowanych w bazach Web of Science Core Collection i Scopus oraz haseł Elektromagnetyzm i Bezpieczeństwo pracy z języka haseł przedmiotowych KABA i Tezaurusa bezpieczeństwo pracy i ergonomia. Wskazano na związek terminów indeksujących z wyszukiwalnością publikacji oraz pośrednio z oceną autorów i jednostek naukowo-badawczych.

The paper presents examples of keywords appearing in selected publications indexed in Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus databases. Also the headings Electromagnetism and Industrial/Occupational safety in two controlled vocabularies, i.e. KABA subject headings system and Thesaurus occupational safety and ergonomics, were presented. The relationship between indexing headings and the searchability of publications was indicated. This relationship has its indirect association with the assessment of authors and scientific-research units.

This study focuses on the possibilities and limits of contemporary history research within the transformation of the humanities and social sciences influenced by new information technologies and the digital turn. The authors present the main trends of digitization policy in the Czech Republic in the context of the social debate on coming to terms with the communist past and in the context of professional discussions on the possibilities of the use of bibliographic datasets in the digital humanities. They focus on the role of digitization in the objectification of historical knowledge and its potential use as a tool for new interpretations of historical data, focusing first on the contrast between digitization from below, represented by the social activist digitization of samizdat texts on the initiative of individuals (typically former dissidents) or civic associations, and digitization from above, in the form of the state- sponsored and institutionalised digitization of sources of state provenance (mainly materials of the security services of the Czechoslovak communist regime). In the second part of the article, the authors present the newly emerging online database "Bibliography of Ecological and Environmental Issues in Czechoslovak Samizdat" in the context of the current research on Czechoslovak dissent and bibliographic processing of samizdat texts. Using this example, they argue that bibliographies, which are among the traditional tools and aids of historical research, have a great potential for use in digital humanities and thus in digital history, although this potential is still unexploited in contemporary history.
