We show that a upside-down bathtub failure rate function can be obtained from a mixture of two increasing failure rate function (IFR) models. Specifically, we study the failure rate of the mixture an exponential distribution, and an IFR distribution with strictly increasing failure rate function. Examples of several other upside-down bathtub shaped failure rate functions are also presented. The method are illustrated by a numerical example of the time between the failures for the bus engines.

The today’ state of power systems and their components needs to be led according the rules of Asset Management with the regarding of the necessary positive aspects of dependability covering the reliability, maintainability, availability and safety. To ensure the optimal level of profitability the information support of Asset Management decision level connected with the necessary application of methods of evaluating the dispersed data and of statistical inference is necessary. Two practical case studies are also presented.

Współczesny stan systemów elektroenergetycznych i ich wyposażeń wymaga zarządzania spełniającego wymogi strategii zarządzania zasobami (Asset Management) z koniecznym uwzględnieniem korzystnych aspektów zespołu wzajemnych uzależnień obejmującego problematykę niezawodności, obsługiwania, dyspozycyjności oraz bezpieczeństwa. W celu zapewnienia optymalnego poziomu zyskowności niezbędne jest wsparcie informacyjne bazujące na opracowywaniu danych rozproszonych i metodach wnioskowania statystycznego. W artykule przedstawiono również przykłady z praktyki.
