Nowadays, with highly developed instrumentation, sensing and actuation technologies it is possible to foresee an important advance in the field of autonomous and semi-autonomous transportation systems. Among the most promising transport infrastructures the articulated bus is an interesting, low cost and friendly option. In this paper an experimental set-up for research on automatic control of articulated bus is presented. Comprised by a mobile platform (the articulated bus) fully instrumented and a ground test area of asphalt roads inside CSIC premises, this experimental facility allows full testing of automatic driving systems. Paper presents obtained experimental results linked to real time testing of proposed control-perception architectures and a human-machine-interface developed to ease progress in control system evaluation.

W artykule przedstawione zostały kierunki w jakich następuje, jest przewidywany rozwój systemów związanych z automatyzacją transportu. Pierwsza część poświęcona została omówieniu funkcjonujących już systemów, przeznaczonych do optymalizacji procesów transportu dalekiego. Systemy takie opierają się w głównej mierze na najnowszych osiągnięciach techniki takich jak GPS i komunikacja bezprzewodowa. W drugiej części pokazane zostały osiągnięcia w dziedzinie automatyzacji podstawowych procesów związanych z transportem, takich jak załadunek/rozładunek nadwozi wymiennych. Zarysowana została również koncepcja dalszego ich rozwoju i udoskonalenia.

The article will present current and future directions of automated transportation system's development. At the beginning, currently functioned Systems for optimization of long distance transportation processes, will be discussed. This kind of systems uses advanced technological solutions like GPS and wireless communication. Next, achievements on the field of basic transportation process automation as load/unload process will be presented. Automated, multi element vehicle back driving system will be taken as an example. Finally, outline the system development and improvement idea will be shown.
