The problem of leadership has a multidimensional and also amorphous character. It is defined in various ways in literature. From the psychological and sociological aspect, the idea of leadership is to exert an efficient influence on other individuals, to gain skilfully supporters, helping them to achieve common aims and exercise power basing mainly on informal authority. Some authors erroneously identify the notion of leadership with traditionally understood management or command. The idea of leadership may be analysed due to various theoretical assumptions. Such an analysis has been conducted in the article in relation to the assumptions of four theoretical concepts: behavioural, psycho-dynamic, cognitive and cultural-political one.
