Properties of four amide-type ionophores towards binding of alkali metal cations (K+, Na+, Li+) have been established by determining the respective complex stability constants with the use of the liquid membrane ion-selective electrodes (ISEs).
Several macrocyclic diamides have been tested as ligands for complexation of alkali metal cations. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry was found to be a perfect tool for investigation of host-guest interaction between ligands and cations studied. Effect of the ring size and regioisomerism of the amido groups on complexation properties of ligands were also investigated.
Four chiral macrocyclic bissulfonamides derived from D-mannitol and L-threitol, possessing C2 symmetry, were obtained by a macrocyclization reaction under high-dilution conditions. Their applications for alkali metal binding processes were studied using ESI-MS technique.
