In the present text, some recent changes in the perspective taken by psycholinguists in the study of language and communication are discussed. T heir interests seem to gradually shift from the study of language processing as an isolated and independent phenomenon towards inclusion of more interactional factors being indispensable components of interpersonal communication and involved in the process of communicative alignment. Alignment is here understood as a complex phenomenon that goes beyond increasing similarity of mental representations and related communicative behaviour. It simultaneously occurs on many levels and in various modalities, including those traditionally excluded from language study. A s a consequence, it implies not only more flexibility in the study of interpersonal communication but it also means a shift in the psycholinguistic methodology and probably also in the widely accepted picture of language and its limits.

Albania is a member of WTO from September 2000 and is currently in a deep and substantial transformation of the trade policy. Albanian trade regime is very liberal, open and transparent fully compliant with WTO law. Accession to EU is the strategic goal of all Governments after ’90s and alignment with EU acquis is at the core of any process. EU integration is an engine for the development in all candidate or potential candidate countries. This process requires the alignment of national policies and harmonization of the legislation. Trade policy is among the most developed policies in European Union and Albania. This is mainly due to the membership in World Trade Organization (WTO) and Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with the most important trading partners. The accession of Albania to EU will significantly affect the Albanian trade policy. This paper analyses the state of play of Albanian trade policy and presents the main developments in the EU Common Commercial Policy after the Lisbon Treaty (2009). Based on this analysis the paper highlights the implications for Albanian trade policy.

The ship propulsion shaft line is one of the most critical ship components having big influence on a ship safety. Because of that, there is well known need for proper shaft line survey either by ship crew, ship owner technical services as well as by classification society surveyors. One of the most dangerous and frequent kind of shaft line failures, especially on old ships, is a fatigue break of the collar coupling bolts. It usually causes the loss of the possibility to use the main propulsion system. In case of the bad weather and severe sea conditions it can lead even to the ship loss. The paper presents some data on failure statistics that was observed to shaft lines and propulsion system machinery. Furthermore, analyses of causes and generation mechanism of the mentioned fatigue breaks of the collar coupling bolts is presented.

In tomography, slight differences between the geometry of the scanner hardware and the geometric model used in the reconstruction lead to alignment artifacts. To exploit high-resolution detectors used in many applications of tomography, alignment of the projection data is essential. Markerless alignment algorithms are the preferred choice over alignment with markers, in case a fully automatic tomography pipeline is required. Moreover, marker based alignment is often not feasible or even possible. At the same time, markerless alignment methods often fail in scenarios where only a small number of projections are available. In this case, the angular separation between projection images is large and therefore the correlation between them is low. This is a property that most markerless algorithms rely on. The intermediate reconstruction problem of alignment by projection matching is highly underdetermined in the limited data case. Therefore, we propose a projection matching method that incorporates prior knowledge of the ground truth. We focus on reconstructing binary volumes. A discrete tomography algorithm is employed to generate intermediate reconstructions. This type of reconstruction algorithm does not rely heavily on correlated projection images. Our numerical results suggest that alignment using discrete tomography projection matching produces much better results in the limited angle case, when compared to a projection matching method that employs an algebraic reconstruction method.

The present paper aims at giving an overview of the basic theories pertaining to the emergence and development of ergativity in Indo-Aryan. It has usually been argued that ergativity could have been derived either from the passive or the originally PIE ergative construction. In addition to these two basic approaches to ergativity in IA, other perspectives are also taken into consideration here, namely the theory which is based on the pragmatic properties of OIA, and the hypothesis of the possible borrowing from the substratum languages. The existing models of the historical scenarios of the emergence of ergativity in IA, including their later mutations, are confronted with the hypothesis of the possible active typology of PIE. The active residues in OIA and its continuants might prove that ergativity arose due to the transition from the PIE active to the nominative stage attested in the daughter languages.

Existing symbolic music comparison systems generally consider monophonic music or monophonic reduction of polyphonic music. Adaptation of alignment algorithms to music leads to accurate systems, but their extensions to polyphonic music raise new problems. Indeed, a chord may match several consecutive notes, or the difference between two similar motifs may be a few swapped notes. Moreover, the substitution scores between chords are difficult to set up. In this paper, we propose a general framework for polyphonic music using the substitution score scheme set for monophonic music, which allows new operations by extending the operations proposed by Mongeau and Sankoff [15]. From a practical point of view, the limitation of chord sizes and the number of notes that can be merged consecutively lead to a complexity that remains quadratic.

The aim of this article is to clarify the fuzzy notion of “successful humour”. It focuses on humorous sequences in French face-to-face interactions which are both successful and have a same type of target: a collective “Other” (foreign culture, a French or foreign institution, a French or foreign socio-professional group). It will be shown that laughing about/at others (with all the aggressiveness this could imply) is not inconsistent with the necessary collaborative aspect of the conversation. On the contrary, the necessary collaboration between the participants will be highlighted through analysing humour in two different but complementary ways. Firstly, analysing humour through one specific target (the collective “Other”) will show that the participants rely on shared knowledge to display fictitious identities allowing them to construct humour. Secondly, a structural analysis of successful humorous sequences will deepen the notion of successful humour, highlighting two different structures: a two-part structure and a three-part structure. While the terms “successful humour” will be restricted to the former, the notion of “humorous convergence” will be proposed to refer to the latter. This study is based on 51 successful humorous sequences extracted from three face-to-face interactions audio- and video-recorded in an anechoic room at Aix-Marseille University, France

In the article the problem of preserving geometric design conditions by devices of sluices is presented. The problem was illustrated by alignment of the shaft flap of the sluice on the Gliwicki Channel. Within changing the flap drive it was necessary also to perform the realignment of the flap. From the geodetic point of view, the problem was to perform coaxial setting of the two mutually invisible shafts flap within an accuracy not exceeding 0.5 mm. Thanks to first — class measuring equipment and aiding equipments (author’s patents) it was possible to achieve this goal.

We studied the electrooptical effects in ferroelectric liquid crystals at both the fundamental and the second harmonic frequency. The linear effects caused mainly by the changes in optic axis position give rise to the changes in the intensity of light passing the sample placed between crossed polarizers. The electric field causes also changes in the shape of the indicatrix. Both mentioned effects influence the second harmonic response. We observed that the defects present in ferroelectric liquid crystal sample affect the electrooptical response to a large extent. This influence is especially significant for the second order harmonics. The depth of light modulation depends on kind of alignment (bookshelf or chevron).

The present paper pleads for the awareness of HR strategy importance, in terms of proper design and implementation, as they definitely could impede or sustain the development of an organization. By making use of G.VALI, the model of organizational culture dynamics, we look for revealing the impact that (non-)existence of HR strategy, its alignment and coherence could have on the organization success. As proven by human experience, all types of strategies could work and be effective in certain conditions. Even more, no one can say that one strategy is better than other. However, in the same way, there is no guarantee of some strategies success. In this light, the difference lays in the handy and clever interlock of the country specific advantages and firm (-tobe) specific advantages. For achieving this specific aim, vertical (alignment) and horizontal (coherence) integration of each functional strategy must be ensured.

The process of railway track adjustment is a task which includes bringing, in geometrical terms, the actual track axis to the position ensuring safe and efficient traffic of rail vehicles. The initial calculation stage of this process is to determine approximately the limits of sections of different geometry, i.e. straight lines, arcs and transition curves. This allows to draw up a draft alignment design, which is subject to control the position relative to the current state. In practice, this type of a project rarely meets the requirements associated with the values of corrective alignments. Therefore, it becomes necessary to apply iterated correction of a solution in order to determine the final project, allowing to introduce minor corrections while maintaining the assumed parameters of the route. The degree of complexity of this process is defined by the quality of determining a preliminary draft alignment design. Delimitation of the sections for creation of creating such a design, is usually done by using the curvature diagram (InRail v8.7 Reference Guide [1], Jamka et al [2], Strach [3]), which is, however, sensitive to the misalignment of the track and measurement errors. In their paper Lenda and Strach [4] proposed a new method for creating curvature diagram, based on approximating spline function, theoretically allowing, inter alia, to reduce vulnerability to interference factors. In this study, the method to determine a preliminary draft alignment design for the track with severe overexploitation was used, and thus in the conditions adversely affecting the accuracy of the conducted readings. The results were compared to the ones obtained using classical curvature diagram. The obtained results indicate that the method allows to increase the readability of a curvature graph, which at considerable deregulation of a track takes an irregular shape, difficult to interpret. The method also favourably affects the accuracy of determining the initial parameters of the project, reducing the entire process of calculation.

Alignment of specific regions of two biological molecules is a basic method for determination how similar these two molecules are. There are several methods of optimal alignment that were developed through many years. However, they are dedicated for nucleotide sequences of DNA⁄RNA or amino acid sequences of proteins. Since the construction of proteins can also be analyzed at the level of secondary structure (and higher), we need a comparative method, which would allow us to determine the similarity between biological particles at this level and express it through the appropriate similarity measure. For this reason, we have modified an existing Smith–Waterman method towards matching sequences of secondary structures elements (SSEs). In the paper, we present our modification to the method. We also describe how we find several alternative and equally optimal alignment paths on the basis of the characteristics of compared sequences. Presented alignment method is used in the PSS–SQL language, which allows searching a database in order to find proteins having secondary structures similar to the structural pattern specified by a user.

Background: Nowadays LSPs face an increasingly competitive environment in which a strategy to focus on existing customers by satisfying and sustaining them has been proved to be more successful than trying to get the small share of customers that have not yet outsourced any logistics activities. To be able to keep and grow the customers, LSPs have to overcome a number of barriers, align with customers and innovate. However, there is still a lack of understanding when, with what type of customers, and how LSPs can effectively leverage customer integration within Innovation Alignment for successful innovation. The purpose of the paper is to: present the concept of logistics innovation and its role in creating customer satisfaction, point a number of barriers to LSPs’ innovativeness, and analyze the role and characteristics of relationship innovation alignment when developing and implementing innovative logistics services. Methods: The research adopts a two-stage effort, with Stage 1 being focus groups with LSPs and their customers, and Stage 2 being a theory-testing survey. Up to now, focus groups, survey development, and survey pre-tests with LSPs senior executives have been completed. Conducting the survey and collecting data is in progress. To illustrate the preliminary findings from the American market, case studies in the European surrounding, describing cooperation between LSPs and their customers on logistics innovations, were prepared. Results: Aligning with a customer when pursuing something new is a crucial success factor in logistics sector, especially when pursuing and developing a radical tailored service innovation. The Innovation Alignment should embrace managerial as well as relational mechanisms. Conclusions: LSPs, compared to other industries, are not very innovative. However, logistics managers should try to overcome barriers and proactively develop and implement logistics service innovations. The preliminary results of the research have already shown that integrating customers into the logistics innovation process could increase their satisfaction and enhance the innovation performance of LSP.

Praktyka pokazuje, iż, dążąc do zatrzymania i zwiększania udziału w kieszeni klienta, operatorzy logistyczni muszą pokonać szereg barier, wejść w sojusz z klientami i stać się innowacyjni. Sojusz innowacyjny powinien obejmować zarządcze i relacyjne mechanizmy. Wnioski: Operatorzy logistyczni, w porównaniu do innych branż, są raczej mało innowacyjni. Jednakże menedżer logistyczny powinien spróbować pokonać te bariery i proaktywnie opracować i wdrożyć innowacyjne usługi logistyczne. Wstępne wyniki badań pokazały, że włączenie klientów w proces innowacji logistycznej może spowodować wzrost satysfakcji klienta i poprawić wynik innowacyjny operatora logistycznego.

The aim of the paper is to introduce a tool that has recently been developed at the Institute of the Czech National Corpus, the Treq Translation Equivalents Database, and to explore its possible uses. These range from simple, one-shot probes while searching for an equivalent expression for a target language to more sophisticated and elaborate corpus-assisted translations. A significant advantage of Treq is the possibility of clicking on any equivalent and immediately verifying its individual occurrences in context — and thus being able to more easily distinguish relevant translation candidates from misleading ones. This utility, which is based on data stored in the InterCorp parallel corpus, is continually being upgraded and enriched with new functions (the recent integration of multi-word units, adding English as the primary language of the dictionaries, an improved interface, etc.), and the accuracy of results is growing as the volume of data continually increases.
