The article deals with basics of professional training of the future agrarians in higher education institutions of Great Britain. The aim of the article is to identify the principal components of professional training of the future agrarians in Great Britain. The goals of the article are to highlight the principle backgrounds influencing formulation of the purpose, tasks and content of professional training of the future agrarians in Great Britain as well as to analyze notion, nature and extent of training future agrarians in higher education of Great Britain. Training future agrarians in higher education refers to bachelor’s degrees in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Food, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences. Agricultural education is identified as programs that prepare students for careers in production, agriculture, horticulture, agricultural mechanics, agribusiness, and emerging agricultural fields. Professional training of the future agrarians is provided by further education colleges (FECs)), monotechnics (Harper Adams University College, Royal Agricultural University and Writtle College) and university departments. There is growing demand for high-level skills in the agri-food sectors in Great Britain. The term “high-level skills” is used to cover skills at Level 4 and above, that is, first degrees, higher diplomas and postgraduate qualifications. Modern agricultural programs in higher education institutions in Great Britain cover the subject areas of the land-based and agri-food industries and professions, related applied and social sciences, rural studies, and consumer sciences and studies. As a result of the research we have come to the conclusion that each subject area encompasses various aspects of production chains involving animals, crops and retail of consumer goods and services. Besides they involve consumer interactions with producers, service providers and other stakeholders. Sustainable and secure production, consumption and development are important aspects of the future agrarians’ training. Agricultural programmes in GB provide academically rigorous study of relevance of material that is applicable in the work of world and society. Many programmes are concerned with aspects of human use of the biosphere, as well as moral liability for adequate usage of natural resources. So the experience is useful for Ukraine.

Some experience in the field of training skilled personnel for agriculture in the higher educational establishments of Great Britain is taken into consideration in the article. The aim of the article is to analyze the development of formal education institutions on the basis of the Royal Agricultural College. Special mention is given to the researches of British and national scientists as for agricultural education. As a result of the research the background of the foundation of the Royal Agricultural College (later University) at Cirencester is analyzed. The system of higher agricultural education developed in several phases. Many factors contributed to it. The Royal Agricultural College was the first institution to attempt to provide agricultural education at a high level. It combined two characteristics of formal studies in agriculture in the early nineteenth century: its promotion by independent, private initiative and its concern with basic scientific knowledge. The educational facilities of the College were generous. The peculiarities of the training course, practical training, exams and the system of encouragement for educational and practical achievements are touched upon. In the conclusion we stated the fact that the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester had influenced greatly the establishment and development of some new agricultural colleges because for many years the colleges had followed the example of the Royal Agricultural College in providing training courses which had combined practical with theoretical training for those who had wished to make a career in agriculture and farming. The thing of great importance is the fact that knowledge should be provided to assist in the solution of the nation’s economic problems. This experience is useful to Ukraine. The prospects for further research in this direction are to analyze, organize, synthesize, and critically reflect on the experience of Great Britain in the field of agricultural education. This in turn will give the opportunity to make more informed and correct decisions regarding the reform of the Ukrainian educational system in the field of professional training for agriculture.

The examination of the continuity between higher education and the labour market is a research area that is increasingly being dealt with. It is a generally accepted fact that people with a higher education degree can more easily find a job and receive a higher salary. The examination of the ways how new graduates are provided with the opportunity of filling in a post tailored to their skills, abilities and qualification in the least complicated and smoothest way has already been a subject of several labour market studies in Europe. In Hungary, finding a job has apparently become more difficult for graduates since about 2000. This fact has been stressed since it contrasts with the expectations of the 1990s. There are a number of processes behind the statistics attempting to describe the chances of degree holders to find employment. Naturally, there are professional fields in which it is easier to find a job – in this case payment is usually lower. In other areas, the opposite tendency holds true. Data provided by the graduate career tracking system present a good opportunity to examine to what extent degree holders graduating from the Hungarian higher education system, which has been developing rapidly since the political transformation, meet labour market expectations. Economic recovery was related to the expansion of higher education and it was supposed that it was easier for graduates to find a job, which could reduce unemployment. The present paper examines this issue among agricultural graduates. The respondents’ evaluation of the work carried out in institutions of higher education is considered together with how they could make use of their knowledge, to what extent their qualification correlates with their present job and also how fast they could find a job after taking their final exams.
