High alumina cement is an important component of self-levelling floor masses. It is used together with Portland cement. The aim of this research was to test the impact of the addition of alumina cement on basic physical and mechanical properties of the Portland cement mortar. It was observed that the addition of alumina cement shortens the setting time as well as negatively affects the consistency and reduces the plasticity of self-levelling masses. However, the addition of 6% of alumina cement slightly increases the strength of these masses and significantly improves the adhesion to the concrete base.
