Significance: An effective algorithm for optimization of lens parameter can greatly eliminate the aberration and reduce the thickness, making the wearer more comfortable. Aim: We proposed a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) for generating sets of base curves and aspheric coefficients to minimize the residual astigmatism and aberration of the lenses, while satisfying the constraints on the lens thickness and power. Approach: By simulating natural selection using the NSGA-II algorithm, the design parameters considered the inventory of the semi-finished blank. A comparison of aspheric and spherical spectacle lenses with –8 diopters was designed, simulated, processed, and measured. Results: The measured spherical and cylindrical power distributions were consistent with the simulated results with corrected oblique astigmatism and distortion. Conclusions: The aspheric spectacle lenses had the required aesthetic shape and weight reduction compared to a spherical lenses of the same power. It is verified that this paper puts forward an effective NSGA-II algorithm for the optimization of lens parameters.

Holographic optical elements for Fourier transform (HOE-FT) used in the optical memory system are considered in this paper. The determination of the optimal page composer capacity allows for the appropriate choice of the diameter of HOE-FT as well as the size of a hologram recorded in the fotorefractive crystal LiNbO3:Fe, with the help of two different wavelengths of the laser light beam. When the interfering field is recorded in the HOE-FT structures, properties of the recorded spectru are established. The proper choice of the phase function coefficients allows aberration to be corrected on the basis of spotdiagrams obtained.

Monografia jest poświęcona badaniu jakości odwzorowania obiektywów hybrydowych, czyli takich, w których jednym ze składników jest struktura dyfrakcyjna. Punktem wyjścia są wzory opisujące III-rzędowe aberracje Seidela powierzchni refrakcyjno-dyfrakcyjnej. Na ich podstawie wyprowadzono warunki, konieczne do uzyskania korekcji chromatyzmu na poziomie achromatu, apochromatu i quasi-superachromatu, oraz warunki zapewniające korekcję aberracji sferycznej. Analizowano także możliwości skorygowania aberracji polowych: komy, astygmatyzmu i krzywizny pola. Ponieważ niektóre zależności analityczne są bardzo złożone, w wielu przypadkach posłużono się analizą numeryczną. Rozważania teoretyczno-numeryczne zilustrowano znaczną liczbą przykładów, to znaczy projektów konkretnych obiektywów hybrydowych o zadanej korekcji. Jeden z rozdziałów pracy dotyczy możliwości zaprojektowania hybrydowej soczewki okularowej.

The aim of any optical knaging system is to transform the wave originating from point object into the image wave of nearly spherical wavefront. In particular, a hybrid lens and a hybrid objectiye are examples of opitical knaging systems. One of their elements, apart from classic refractive lenses, is a diffractive element having the form of a set of concentric fringes deposited on one of the refractive surfaces. The Abbe number, the value of which substantially differs from that for typical optical glasess, can be ascribed to the diffractive element. Thanks to that it is possible to design hybrid imaging systems of corrected chromacie aberration. For hybrid lens it is achromatic correetion, while for hybrid objective apochromatic and superachromatic correetions (however, in slightly limited spectral waverange) are possible. The deviation of an image wavefront from ideał sphere indicates the imaging aberrations. The most common description of abberations includes Seidel expansion in which particular 3rd order coefficients stand for spherical aberration, coma, astigmatism and field curvature as well as for distortion. In this monograph, these coefficients for diffractive surface, hybrid lens and hybrid objective (in both cases: compact one and with two elements separated by an aerial gap) are given. Using these formulas achromatic hybrid lenses with corrected spherical aberration and coma as well as hybrid lenses with corrected astigmatism or field curvature are designed. Such lenses can be used in spectacle opties. Hybrid objectives offer morę possibilities of aberration correetion. It is possible to design plan-apochromatic objectives and superachromatic objectives with flat field or free from astigmatism. Examples of such objectives are presented in the monograph.

Większość optometrystów i okulistów nie jest dobrze zaznajomiona z pojęciami aberracji monochromatycznych i ma trudności z interpretacją własności wzrokowych oka na podstawie szeregu współczynników wielomianu Zernikego lub map aberracji frontu falowego. Z drugiej strony, są oni bardzo dobrze wyszkoleni w interpretacji mocy refrakcyjnej oka, głównie w przypadku mocy sferocylindrycznej, która określa aberracje niższego rzędu. Metody przedstawione w niniejszym artykule uogólniają koncepcję mocy refrakcyjnej oka do aberracji wyższych rzędów i przedstawiają je w postaci map refrakcyjnych wyrażanych w dioptriach. Taka reprezentacja aberracji monochromatycznych może być dla tych grup bardziej intuicyjna i zrozumiała.

The majority of optometrists and ophthalmologists have difficulties interpreting monochromatic wavefront aberrations, particularly when expressed in terms of a set of Zernike polynomial coefficients or their graphic equivalents. On the other hand, they are very well trained in the interpretations of eye refractive power, particularly in the case of the spherocylindrical power that describes the aberrations of the lower order. The methods described in the paper generalise the concept of refractive power to higher order aberrations and present them in dioptric power maps. Such representation of monochromatic aberrations could prove to be more intuitive and comprehensible for those groups.

This essay examines Jurgis Baltušaitis’ writings and shows its connections with the works of Henri Focillon, Aby Warburg and Athanasius Kircher. Baltušaitis oriented his interdisciplinary analyses in art history and cultural studies. The essay aims to demonstrate the complexity and importance of Baltrušaitis’ ideas that are developed in the comparative research of medieval art history, depraved perspectives, aberrations and illusions. Those works are linked by the philosophy of image and imagination that stand at the crossroads between abstractness and concreteness, myth and history, reality and illusion, rational and irrational forces, the East and West. This article tries to shape Baltrušaitis’ legacy by offering an insight into his thinking which unites various research topics, typically excluded from positivistic studies. It reveals the underlying structures of cultural imaginary in which cross-cultural interactions take place. It argues for the revaluation of his oeuvre by attending to the theoretical concerns behind his historical research program.

The mitotic effect of physical mutagen gamma rays was observed in the root tip cells of Ashwagandha. The Chromosome analysis has been showed as an important tool for establish variability of the plant seed by use of physical mutagen gamma rays. The gamma rays have of low wavelength and high penetrable power. The plant has tremendous medicinal values and it is known from ancient times. The dry and well matured seeds of ashwagandha were irradiated with different doses of gamma rays viz., 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 KR respectively. The chromosome number of control plant is 2n = 48. The gamma rays affect the normal cytological behavior of ashwagandha species. The chromosomal aberrations increase with increase in the doses of gamma rays to optimum level of 30KR, because it causes changes in the chromosome structure, cellular structure and metabolism of plants. The chromosome aberration like, Sticky metaphase, Precocious moment chromosome, Fragments, Anaphasic bridge, Anaphasic laggard, Telophasic laggard. The present investigation was carried out to study the cytogenetic analysis of the species Withania somnifera. The chromosomal aberration increases with increase in the doses to optimum level (50 KR) of physical mutagen gamma rays.

The aim of this work was to study the effect of 4 alkylating agents: 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH), N-nitrosomethylurea (MNU); N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and methyl-methane sulphonate (MMS) on the induction of aberrant crypts (AC) in the colon of female Wistar rats and Swiss mice. It was shown that the standard colon carcinogens (DMH and MNU), when administered intragastrically (per os) to the rats and mice, induced aberrant crypts in the dose-dependent manner. It was also found that 9—10 week rats were more sensitive to abberant crypts induction than the younger 3—4 week animals. The aberrant crypts induced by DMH in the colons of 3—4 week female Wistar rats and 3-week female Swiss mice were more frequent in the middle colon and rectum. MNNG and MMS, administrered in our experiment per os and per rectum only to the 3—4 week-old female rats, also induced AC in the colon. The aberrant crypts were evidently more frequent in the animals receiving MNNG per rectum. Among the studied chemicals, MMS induced relatively few aberrant crypts in the colon of the female rats, and only at higher concentrations. The results of our study confirm the hypothesis that aberrant crypts are biomarkers of colonic preneoplastic lesions and demonstrate that the method is useful as a short-term assay for carinogenicity; it may be also used for studying the carcinogenic process in the colon.
