The Polish Veterinary School in Lviv was founded in 1881 as the third school of this kind in Poland after those in Vilnius (1823-1842) and in Warsaw (1823-1842). Since 1945, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Wroclaw has been continuing the achievements of the Veterinary College in Lviv. The organizer of the School in Lviv was prof. Piotr Seifman (1823-1903), the last Polish director of the Veterinary School in Warsaw (1869-1873) before the Russification of Polish schools. The first lecturers of the newly established School were (apart from P. Seifman) professors: H. K^idyi and A. Barański, and later J. Szpilman and S. Królikowski. The School was renamed in 1896 as the Academy of Veterinary Medicine in Lviv and was active up to the outbreak of World War II. In 1945 the staff of the Academy (which included nine professors: A. Bant, B. Janowski, A. Klisiecki, Z. Markowski, G. Poluszyński, T. Olbrycht, K. Szczudłowski, A. Zakrzewski and T. Konopiński) was forced to expatriate from Lviv to Wroclaw. In Wroclaw the Faculty whose roots go back to 1881 celebrates 50 years of its activity in Wroclaw this year and simultaneously 114 years of its well documented history.
