The present paper takes up the discussion concerning the regional identity in Wielkopolska on three distinct but overlapping planes. Firstly, the author characterizes the available survey data pertaining to the sense of connectedness to the region. Secondly, the question of structure and range of those regional bonds is posed. In the final section, some arguments are put forward concerning the functionality of regional identity with respect to the overall developmental challenges faced by Wielkopolska. The analyses lead to the conclusion that while the existence of comparatively strong regional bonds seems undeniable, this set of socially shared beliefs remains weak both in terms of its structure and content. In this sense, what remains the challenge for the research on regional identity in Wielkopolska is not so much the diagnosis of the commonly held subjective auto-stereotypes, as rather the question of the ways in which the regional identity could be enriched and strengthened.

Von den polnischen Historikern wird immer wieder der Vorschlag erhoben, in der Forschung der deutsch-polnischen Beziehungen im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert nach neuen Quellen zu suchen. Die um die Jahrhundertwende entstandene deutschsprachige Unterhaltungsliteratur, die das preußische Teilungsgebiet als Schauplatz des Romangeschehens wählte, scheint eine bisher nicht allzu oft beachtete Quelle zu sein. Für den Zeitraum 1890–1939 wurden mehr als 80 Romane identifiziert, die unter dem Kriterium: Posen-Preußen-Polen-Deutsche ausgewählt werden konnten. Wenn man die Zahl und die Qualität der in der Literatur über die Provinz Posen auftauchenden Probleme des deutsch-polnischen Nebeneinanderlebens im preußischen Teilungsgebiet berücksichtigt, so kommt man zu der Möglichkeit, ihre Rangfolge zu bestimmen. Das größte Hindernis und den häufigsten Konfliktauslöser zwischen den Deutschen und Polen in der Provinz bildete, den literarischen Quellen nach, die Konfession, an der zweiten Stelle ist die vermeintliche geschichtliche Zugehörigkeit der Gebiete um Posen zu den Deutschen zu nennen, dann die schlechte – also: polnische Wirtschaft der polnischen Provinzbewohner und zuletzt die kulturellen und mentalen Unterschiede zwischen beiden Nationen. Die nach 1918 herausgegebenen literarischen Darstellungen der ehemaligen Preußischen Provinz bringen eine deutliche Verschärfung aller früheren stereotypen Vorstellungen von den deutsch-polnischen Beziehungen im Posenschen.

Background. Youth football in Wielkopolska (Greater Poland Voivodship) has always been treated in a special, preferential way. Since the first sport associations were set up more than 100 years ago, football in Wielkopolska has had many sporting as well as organisational achievements. Wielkopolska was the first region in the country where a youth league was established. The town of Sieraków was the place where the first Junior Football Championship was held. Furthermore, the Wielkopolska Voivodship was also a pioneer in organising football championships for children under 13. It was also the home of the first women’s football club. The aim of this study was to find out what determines football development and to what extent football players have contributed to the successes of Poland national football team. Material and methods. Qualitative research was used. It based on documents found in the Archives of Football Association in Poznan and private archives and information published in the local press. Results. The analysis shows that the unquestionable successes of Wielkopolska football clubs result from the obligation imposed on the best local clubs to create youth teams as well as the passion and dedication of the clubs’ volunteers and employees.

The purpose of this publication is to present the knowledge management and recommendations of IT tools in foresight scenarios of Wielkopolska development. The presented work was created based on analysis of development scenarios, resulting from research carried out in research projects: "Foresight – Wielkopolska economic networks. Rostarzewo (1898-1919 Rothenburg an der Obra), nowadays a large village in the western part of the Wielkopolska Region, existed 1752-1934 as a city. The big edifice of the town hall, situated in the centre of the village, was build in the 18th century by the German settlers. Polish inhabitant of the city, nobleman Maciej Malczewski, invited not only German townsmen, but also peasants, who settled in the villages around Rostarzewo. The newcomers, mostly Protestants (Lutherans), founded a new Protestant parish, which embraced the city Rostarzewo and the villages: Stodolsko, Gola, Głodno, Barłożnia, Łąkie, Dąbrowa, Zdrogowo. The number of the Catholic population in Rostarzewo decreased so rapidly, that the old Catholic church in the city was destroyed in 1823. The nearest Catholic parish church as well as the residence of Malczewski and the following Polish inhabitants of the estates in Rostarzewo, was situated in Gościeszyn. The city Rostarzewo built up its position on agriculture and trade. The lack of modern industry and state offices contributed to the decline of the urban economy in the late 19th century, but it also preserved the traditional social structure, dating from the 18th century. The increased power of nationalism and the Polish-German conflict in the borderland forced many Germans the leave Rostarzewo after 1919. The end of the Protestant parish brought the Second World War and the following expulsion of the Germans from Poland.
