For the healthy development of these border regions, one of the essential questions is the position of tourism and its development in the economy of respective regions. Currently, the big trends in the field of destination management are activities such as event, congress tourism, etc., operated primarily in private accommodation in the home region of clients. Like any other part of the economy, tourism is also confronted with the pitfalls of the economic crisis. These pitfalls are to deal with a good knowledge of clients and their expectations as well as with maximum use of what the region offers in terms of tourism. Chronostratigraphic significance of an early Valanginian (Cretaceous) calpionellid association (Hochkogel section, Upper Austria, Northern Calcareous Alps)

Early Cretaceous calpionellid samples were collected at the ammonoid-bearing Hochkogellocality in the southern most part of the Reichraming Nappe (Ebenforst Syncline, Northern Calcareous Alps). The microfossil fauna sampled from limestone parts of the Rossfeld Formation indicates an early Valanginian age. The standard Calpionellites Zone (with darderi and major subzones) coincides with the early Valanginian ammonoid zones of Busnardoites campylotoxus and Tirnovella pertransiens. The deposition of the limestones in this area occurred in an unstable environment disturbed by gravitational transport which accounts for the different sedimen tary components and accompanying fossils in the accumulated layers, transported from a source area situated to the south.

During the archival study of the rich legacy of Prof. Józef Kostrzewski carried out by the author, a ready-to-be-published manuscript by Kazimierz Gelinek (1946) in Polish and English was found. It describes his archaeological activities 1940-45 as a prisoner at Mauthausen-Gusen, one of the most severe German Nazi concentration camps. Gelinek, a geographer and pre-war grammar school teacher with extensive archaeological field and museum practice in the Płock region, was ordered by the camp commanders first to form the excavation brigade of prisoners in order to examine several sites in the vicinity of the camp (the archaeologically rich region of Upper Danube valley), then to organize a small archaeological museum in one of the camp barracks and finally – to prepare a monograph of the excavated area that was handed to Heinrich Himmler, chief of the SS and Gestapo and an enthusiastic amateur of archaeology, during his visit.
