The analysis presented herein is aimed at indicating disparities in accessibility to some selected travel destinations by means of private and public transport in the city of Szczecin. Accessibility is a simple measure of potential interactions between two points in space. For the purpose of the study, an original model of an individual transportation system has been developed using Google Maps API data. In order to do so, some GTFS and pedestrian-related data have been downloaded. To calculate source-destination travel times at certain times of the day for four different parameters of pedestrian motion speed, ArcGIS Network Analyst software has been used. Five research methods have been applied: the proximity measure, the population percentage measure, the cumulative accessibility measure, the potential accessibility index and the potential accessibility quotient. In order to develop an ultimate accessibility rating for housing estates in Szczecin, a synthetic accessibility measure has been developed. The synthetic accessibility measure consists of 9 standardised components/values for both public and private (car) transport. The potential accessibility to the population is part of the synthetic accessibility sub-measure. The isochrones have been drawn in order to analyse the workplaces and secondary schools. Moreover, data concerning accessibility to the nearest kindergarten, primary school, hospital, cinema, shopping centre and indoor swimming pool have also been taken into consideration when calculating the synthetic measure. In the case of potential accessibility measures, it is usually the highest in the city centre. Obviously, the nearer a particular facility, the higher its accessibility measure is. The only disparities between the measures for public and private transport are observed in areas which are not covered by the public transportation network(original abstract)

Pomimo dobrych chęci realizacja założeń polityki transportowej miasta Warszawy postępuje opornie i z opóźnieniami wynikającymi głównie z niedostatków finansowych. Fakt ten jest niepokojący tym bardziej, iż stolica zatyka się coraz dotkliwiej, zaś ostatnie dziesięciolecie dla jej układu komunikacyjnego było okresem niemal zupełnego zastoju.

Od połowy lat 80-tych w Polsce maleje rola publicznej komunikacji miejskiej, ponieważ także mieszkańcy miast przesiadają się do własnych samochodów. Według ekspertów udział tego rodzaju transportu nadal będzie malał i zbliży się do wskaźników występujących w krajach unijnych.

The sergeant Jan Grudziński, alias "Płomień" (eng. „Flame”) was born on the 23rd December 1914 in Kąkolewnica. Just before the outbreak of the war, he had served in the 6th Sapper Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division. He fought in the September Campaign. When the campaign had been finished he managed to avoid captivity and settled in his hometown of Rudnik. Jan Grudziński began his underground activity probably in 1941. After the establishment of the ZWZ-AK (The Union of Armed Struggle - Home Army), he conformed to the structures of that organization in Radzyń Podlaski’s District. The activity conducted at that time was focusing on combating informers and gangs, building an intelligence network, organizing sabotage and distributing underground newspapers. The "Flame" took part in the "Burza" operation (eng. Operation „Tempest”). He had participated in battles with the Germans until the 35th Infantry Regiment of the Home Army was disarmed by the Soviets. After the dissolution of the Home Army, he did not reveal himself and continued his struggle with the communist regime as a part of the Resistance Movement, and then the Freedom and Independence Organization. He was in charge of the militia unit in the IV region. Then he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He took part in the attack on Radzyń Podlaski on New Year's Eve in 1946. After the falsified election, he revealed himself on the commander of the district order, but he hid a part of the weapon. Arrested in July 1947 by the communist Security Office, he was imprisoned in the Castle in Lublin and subjected to a brutal investigation. He was sentenced to death with the verdict of the Military District Court. After the execution, the body of Jan Grudziński was secretly buried, probably in the cemetery at Unicka Street in Lublin.

System transportu zbiorowego w Warszawie opiera się na autobusach i tramwajach, wspomaganych przez odcinek pierwszej linii metra Kabaty - Centrum. W ostatnich latach wprowadzono kilka zmian, które mają zaowocować poprawą sprawności systemu transportowego stolicy. Zaczęto wprowadzać też do eksploatacji nowy, niskopodłogowy tabor.
