In the present study, intraspecific morphometric distribution of Spicara flexuosum was investigated along the five locations on the Turkish coast based on eight morphological characters. A total of 116 samples were obtained along the Turkish coasts (Istanbul, Yalova [Armutlu], Izmir, Mersin and Antalya) by using trawlers and the handline fishing method within the period in 2014–2015. Principal component analysis and the dendrogram-based Euclidean distance method were used to evaluate different morphometric traits among five locations. The most important ratios of the morphometric loading characters were the head length to interorbital distance, head length to eye diameter, maximum body height two to head height, and head height to head length. The classification matrix based on the discriminant function analysis showed that 94.7% of original grouped were correctly classified. Principal component and cluster analysis showed the existence of two morphologically differentiated groups of S. flexuosum. First one composed of Istanbul and Yalova and the second one consisted of Izmir, Mersin and Antalya. This study is the first description of the intraspecific distribution of morphometric characters for S. flexuosum along the Turkish coast as well as the Mediterranean region for fisheries management purposes.

The objective of this study was to investigate decapod species occurring in the Turkish Straits System. For this purpose, benthic samples were collected from six different biotopes (photophilic algae, Cystoseira barbata, meadows, Posidonia oceanica, mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, meadows, Zostera marina, serpulid reef, and rocks) at depths ranging from 10 to 1000 m. A total of 60 species of decapod crustaceans were identified, including new records for the Turkish Straits System: Processa elegantula, P. modica, Richardina fredericii, Callianassa subterranea, Gourretia denticulata, Inachus parvirostris and Macropodia linaresi. In addition, some information about the spatial and bathymetric distribution as well as biotope preferences of the decapod community is provided.

This study deals with the presence of Mytilus galloprovincialis on the Mediterranean green crab, Carcinus aestuarii Nardo, 1847 as an epibiont. Crab samples were collected by means of single-entry fyke nets at 6 different locations selected in the Çardak Lagoon. A total of 22 specimens of M. galloprovincialis (1-9 ind. per crab) on different body parts of 4 crabs were recorded. This is the first report about the occurrence of M. galloprovincialis on C. aestuarii.

This study includes new records of soft corals found in the Turkish Straits System (Dardanelles) between 2013-2014. In the above-mentioned area, 50 stations were searched by scientific divers from the intertidal zone to a depth of over 45 m and the ecological characteristics with substrate differences were also recorded. A total of 47 cnidarians were examined during the surveys. Eleven anthozoan species (Aiptasia mutabilis, Alcyonium acaule, Andresia parthenopea, Calliactis parasitica, Cereus pedunculatus, Condylactis aurantiaca, Epizoanthus couchii, Maasella edwardsi, Pteroeides spinosum, Sarcodictyon roseum, Veretillum cynomorium) belonging to 4 orders are new to the Dardanelles strait, one of which is reported from the Marmara Sea. The current data contributed to the advancement of the knowledge about anthozoan species in the Turkish Seas.
