Epithelial cell lines are commonly accepted model system to determine intestinal permeability and transepithelial transport. The application of Caco-2 human epithelial cell culture can be used to study bioavailability of drug and food compounds. This culture grows on porous membranes and forms a monolayer of well differentiated cells joined by intracellular tight junctions. This system provides selective barrier to study passive and active transport of different molecules. The Caco-2 cells posses some enzymes and transport systems similar to intestinal epithelium in vivo, however, these proteins are expressed to a lesser extent compared to normal enterocytes. In this paper, the advantages and limitations of Caco-2 model are discussed.

The article presents the forms of travelling characteristic of the northern Adriatic that formerly belonged to a unified but multicultural area from the Congress of Vienna in 1815 until 1941. The article focusses on the travelling of the local population and tourists by maritime transport services (the Austrian Lloyd founded in 1836 was the largest transport company of the Habsburg Monarchy) and the railway, and later by road motor transport. According to the available sources (the printed tourist guides are an important source for studying tourism development), we also explained the institutional support for tourism development and strategic development aspects by the Austro-Hungarian and later the Italian (fascist) government. The latter achieved significantly lower results in Istrian tourism due to anti-Slavic actions and other political circumstances, economic depression and the spread of epidemic diseases.

This article presents vertical and horizontal classification, and characteristic of transport organization on example of the 'Spedcont' company. Analysis has been based on annual (2002-2008) and quarterly (2004-2008) data. Calculations have been made using model of development trend.

The content of the White Papers indicates that large targets arising from the concept of balanced development are set for the EU's transport policy. It demands a broader view and influence on expanding the range of related activities which create a logistic support system for socio-economic life. The scope of problems associated with this process exceeds the current range of transport policy. Therefore, terms "mobility" and "policy of mobility" are more often used in EU documents as equivalent to "transport" and "policy of transport", but better reflecting the character of the problems.

The effect of liver fluke infection (Fasciola hepatica) on ion transport in the rat proximal colon was evaluated with electrophysiological methods using an Ussing apparatus. Rats were orally infected with F. hepatica metacercariae. The experimental groups of rats at 4 weeks post-infection (wpi) were in the acute stage of fasciolosis, while those at 7, 10 and 13 wpi represented the chronic phase of liver fluke infection. The control group comprised uninfected rats. The experiment consisted of recording transepithelial electrical potential difference (PD) and transepithelial electrical resistance (R) in the colon of the rats. The results revealed reduced PD levels in the colon of rats, especially during the acute phase of fasciolosis. During its chronic phase, a gradual growth in the intestinal transepithelial potential difference was found. Rat fasciolosis did not cause changes in colon sensitivity to mechanical stimulation or in the value of electrical resistance. Only at 13 wpi was resistance found to have dropped. The results have demonstrated that experimental fasciolosis leads to activation of inflammatory mediators and thus to stimulation of nerve fibres, which modifies ion transport in the epithelium of the host large intestine.

The objective of this article is to analyse the transport sector in Germany and to evaluate Germany's transport policy in view of: facing the opportunities and threats, as well as weaknesses and strengths of the transport sector; reaching social, economic and environmental goals (i.e. goals set by the concept of sustainable development), effectiveness, efficiency and relevance.

The work is an attempt for a new interpretation of the 14th-century charter that quotes the main localities on the road from Buda to the Czech lands up to the Hungarian border on the Morava River. Apart from the document, the road has been named as the Czech Road. The Charter is one of the bases of the overall solution, but the survey of the area of interest from Holice to the eastern foothills of the Little Carpathians became equivalently important. Landline remnants have been precisely located and connected to other communication directions. For the first time, it has been proven that the document does not have the function of the itinerary, but merely quotes localities with the collection of charges on the road with the starting points of the Buda-Czech (surrounding) countries.

A general problem of determining water inherent optical properties from natural light radiance distribution in the sea and its depth dependency is analysed. Expressions for light-beam attenuation coefficient of practical significance are obtained. The presence of internal sources of light energy like fluorescence and Raman scattering by water molecules is included in consideration.

Traditional transport represents an important field of research on material and nonmaterial culture. However, before 1945, traditional transport did not receive appropriate attention by Czech and Slovak ethnology. Partial information on transport can be found mainly in regional geographical publications, as well as in the ethnographic works by Lubor Niederle and Karel Chotek, or in texts dealing with agrarian topics. The situation considerably changed after 1945. A new generation of researchers was born, who paid special attention to transport topics. In the 1950s, these topics were addressed in the works of Ludvík Baran, Josef Voráček and Jaroslav Kramařík, and in the research conducted by Vladimír Scheufler and Václav Šolc. As for the period of the 1960s and 1970s, we can mention, for example, Ján Podolák, Magdaléna Paríková, Miroslav Anton Huska, Richard Jeřábek, Karel Fojtík and others. Ethnography as a discipline, or rather a method today, offers, unlike other humanities, a completely different view of this theme. In addition, each researcher chose a different approach and methodology. The ethnographic publications on traditional transport, which were produced in the second half of the 20th century, still represent an important source of information even for present-day researchers dealing with this topic. The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of the ethnographic study of traditional transport in the Czech and Slovak lands with an emphasis on the period 1945–1989 and to highlight the importance and the possibilities of the present-day study of this field.

The paper deals with relationship between reasonable profit and risk in the provision of public passenger transport. In the first part, the paper analyses requirements for determination of reasonable profit in current time. The paper analyses actual determination of reasonable profit, too. Reasonable profit is often specified as percentage part of the costs. In the second part, there is an analysis of risks which affect reasonable profit. These risks are divided into two basic groups: cost risk and income risk. The paper describes ways of dividing risks between contractual sides. In the last part, the relationship which expresses the functionality between reasonable profit and risk in public passenger transport is discussed.

In Uherský Brod, whose district boundary was several tens of kilometres, together with Slovakia, lived at the beginning of the Protectorate of about 600 Jews. Although about 50 people, who managed to emigrate legally, even so the majority of them continue to live in the Jewish part of the city, which in year 1942 became a forcible refuge for forced nearly 3 thousand people benefiting Jewish faith in southeast Moravia. Some local Jews began from the spring of 1939 to work with the active resistance movement components, as with the defence of the nation at converting across the Slovak border, as well as with the illegal Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, which they provide financial means. Jewish cemetery was destroyed, and so was lit synagogue from the 18th century. In January 1943, pursuant to a subpoena 2,837 Jews arrived with 50 kg of luggage into the building of the local grammar school. From there the journey went in three groups after about 1,000 people on 23, 27 and 31. 1. 1943 by stairs to the nearby train station and then through Terezin to Auschwitz.

The study maps the development of road transport of Slovakia in 1940s. It traces the construction of the road infrastructure, legislative changes concerning transport and their impact on motorists. The government regulated transport by means of various licences. The paper analyses the development of the car industry, exports, prices and the accessibility of the cars for the general public. It considers safety and accident prevention. In many parts of the study, the author attempts to compare the road transport in Slovakia and in the Czech Lands. In this way, he gives a more realistic and comprehensive picture of the state of motorization in this period.
