The article belongs to a cycle of works dedicated to reconstruction of the lexicon of extinct Slavic dialects of Western Pomerania (Germ. Hinterpommern). Another article from this series appeared in 'Onomastica' vol. 48. In the current text the authoress presents terrain names from appellative names of trees: 1) olsza, olszyna, olszka 'Alnus' and 2) osa, oska 'Populus tremula'. An important part of the article are two small maps showing the frequency of terrain names from the area of Western Pomerania cited in the text. Characteristic is the larger number of these names in the eastern part, which was Germanized later (18th-20th centuries) and the small number of them in the western part, Germanized the earliest (in the 15th-16th centuries).

The goal of the article is the reconstruction of a fragment of the Pomeranian lexicon on the basis of German recording of terrain names of Slavic etymology. Presented here are terrain names created from the words brzoza (birch) (Pomeranian breza||broza), buk (beech) and dab (oak), as well as from the word dabrowa 'a forest primarily of oaks' that is, from three popular names of deciduous trees. A list of the original inscriptions and their interpretation is supplemented by two maps, on which the distribution of the names under discussion in Western Pomerania is indicated. Terrain names of Pomeranian (Slavic) origin are markedly more numerous in the eastern part of the region, which from a linguistic viewpoint neighbours on Kashubian dialects. This fact is connected with the significantly earlier Germanization of the western part of Pomerania (15th-16th centuries) and the later (comparatively: 17th-18th-19th centuries) Germanization of the eastern part. We find place names based on breza||broza, buk, dab i dabrowa in Western Pomerania significantly less often than terrain names.

The study deals with toponymy of the most western part of Slovakia (Záhorie), which represent (create) the border with Czech Republic. The names of the villages and their terrain parts show that the region was situated in a marshy environment. The living conditions in this area were preferred by the Slavs rather than the Hungarians. The main orientation thoroughfares were the rivers: Danube, Morava, Myjava and their tributary streams. The archaeological researches and surveys have testified the plentiful Slav settlements from the beginning of the 6th century AD. Most of the village and terrain names inform us of the Christian and Pagan cults of our ancestors.
