Magnesium is an antagonist to calcium, but both elements form with fluoride not easily soluble compounds. This paper present the interaction between magnesium and fluoride in plants, animals and man. Another viewpoit on the metabolism of magnesium in the presence of fluoride has been described.

The influence of Mg-fertilization on a change in chemical composition of fodder plants was investigated in three series of pot experiments. Different doses and forms of Mg were used in the experiments conducted on different soils. Magnesium was introduced every year as MgS04; once before the experiments outset dosed lHh as CaCO 3,MgCO3 and MgSO4,and increasing doses: 0,5; 1,0 and 2,0 Hh were used in the third series. Throug Mg-fertilization, there is a possibility to narrow Ca:P and K:(Ca+Mg) ratios, and to a lesser extent, K:Na ratio which improves the fodder quality of fodder plants.

The content of total, exchangeable and soluble (in 20% HCl) magnesium in soils and parent materials increased as increased the fractions content of soils fractions smaller than 0.02 mm. Significantly higher content of magnesium soluble in 20% HCl was found in than soil fractions than in sand and silt fractions. In soil fractions smaller than 0.02 mm more than 60% of soluble magnesium was found.

In a static experiment, which has been carried out since 1979, different fertilization treatment with manure and mineral nitogen were applied. In this experiment the following crop rotation potato, winter rye, winter rye was applied. The organic matter applied to the soil in the form of manure and straw had positive influence on the obtained yield and the contents of Mg in plant material. The manure in comparison to the straw had higherinfluenceonaccumulation and transformation of the Mg from not assimilable forms in the top soil by positive interaction with mineral fertilizers.

Field experiment was carried in years 1977-1984 on the light soil of pH in H20 - 4, 3; and in 1m KCl - 3, 6. The soil was limed every four years with single and quadruple doses of CaO and CaCO3. It was stated that soil liming, especally with quadruple doses of CaO and single and quadruple CaCO3 caused the increase of the exchangable calcium. However the applied experiment has influenced the exchangable Mg content.

The studies were based on the results of two pot experiments with oats and maize respectively. In the expriment with oats Mg was applied on the background of differentiated nitrogen rates and in the experiment with maize three magnesium rates soil or foliar applied were compared. Magnesium fertilization increased yield of fresh matter of maize and slight decreased the oats yield. It was associated with increased uptake and utilization of magnesium and narrowing of the following ratios Ca.Mg, K:Mg and K:(Ca+Mg) in tested crops.
