The paper presents results of studies on groundwater recharge in the Sudety Mountains and their Foreland in hydrological years 2004–2006. Five locations were selected for detailed study with the aid of lysimeters installed permanently in the ground. The recorded infiltration was compared with precipitation and other hitherto gathered data. Precipitation data for the period from January 2004 to July 2005 were provided by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. The studies showed large variability of infiltration time series and water infiltration mainly in colder half of the year (November to April) in some of sampling points and rates of infiltration more or less equal throughout the whole year in other points. The obtained data show infiltration values to be higher in the Sudety Mountains than in their Foreland. The studies indicate decisive influence of climatic factors such as precipitation and mean annual temperature, on infiltration rates in this region.

Artykuł zawiera przegląd wiedzy na temat występowania skał magmowych i metamorficznych (krystalicznych) w obszarze Sudetów i ich Przedgórza. Na tle krystaliniku innych rejonów Polski, teren ten jest najlepiej rozpoznany. Jednocześnie wydaje się najbardziej perspektywicznym dla poszukiwania struktur geologicznych przydatnych do zastosowania technologii gorących suchych skał (HDR - Hot Dry Rocks) - odzysku skumulowanego w nich ciepła dla produkcji energii krystalicznej. Artykuł prezentuje wyniki wieloletnich badań indywidualnych i zespołowych wielu specjalistów różnych dziedzin szczegółowych w ramach badań geologicznych. Koncentruje uwagę na przestrzennej lokalizacji tektonostrukturalnych zmetamorfizowanych jednostek masywów oraz tektonopetrograficznych plutonów, a także na ich historii termicznej. Sugeruje bardziej szczegółowe rozpoznanie skał krystalicznych w obrębie plutonu Karkonoszy.

The article contains an overview of knowledge about the occurrence of igneous and metamorphic (crystalline) rocks in the Sudetes and their Foreland. At the back ground of the other Polish crystalline regions, this area is best recognized. At the same time, it seems most promising for exploration of geological structures suitable for the deployment of hot dry rock (H DR) technology - recovery of the accumulated heat to produce electricity. The article presents the results of long-term individual and teamwork studies within the detailed geological research. It focuses attention on the spatial location of tecto-structural metamorphic units and massifs and tecto-petrographic plutons, as well as on their thermal history. This suggests a more detailed identification of crystalline rocks in the extent of Karkonosze pluton.
