Z drożdży piekarskich wyizolowano i zidentyfikowano pięć szczepów bakteryjnych z rodzaju Bacillus, Micrococcus, Sarcina, Lactobacillus i Eschericha. Stwierdzono, że zahamowanie wzrostu szczepów z rodzaju Bacillus, Micrococcus, Sarcina i Lactobacillus było tym większe, im więcej magnezu znajdowało się w podłożu hodowlanym. W wypadku szczepu E. coli dopiero dodatek Mg2+ w ilości 5,0 i 10,0 g/dm3 powodował zahamowanie wzrostu badanego szczepu.

Five strains of bacteria were isolated from bakery yeast and identified as Bacillus, Micrococcus, Sarcina, Lactobacillus and Escherichia. The results indicated that the growth inhibition of Bacillus, Micrococcus, Sarcina and Lactobacillus increased with the amount of magnesium in the cultivation media. The highest magnesium content (5.0 and 10.0 g Mg2+/dm3) inhibited the growth of E. coli.

In the present study, 30 strains capable of degrading keratin were isolated in selective media containing this protein. A total count of 18 bacterial, 9 fungal and 3 yeast isolates was obtained. The dominating genera were: Bacillus sp., Sarcina sp., Penicillium sp., Fusarium sp., Mucor sp., Geotrichum sp., Rhodotorula sp. and Candida sp. The most effective keratin degradation was performed by the single cultures of bacteria Bacillus and Sarcina as well as Mucor, Penicillium and Fusarium fungi (51÷98%). Feather keratin decomposition by bacterial isolates was analysed in the submerged cultures in the mineral medium, containing keratin as a sole source of carbon and nitrogen. The study shows that the Bacillus polymyxa, B.cereus, B.subtilis and Sarcina sp. bacteria liquified keratin by almost a complete disintegration of its structure, after a few days of incubation. This process was accompanied by the release of soluble proteins (1 mg/cm3), amino groups (210 žg/cm^3) and thiol groups (50 žg/ cm^3). Furthermore, the activity of proteases (48 PU/cm^3 ź min) and keratinases (6 KU/cm3 ź min) in the culture media was observed.

This work presents the results of research on quantitative and qualitative composition of heterotrophic bacteria in waters from 11 wells and 3 piezometric bore-holes in Omulewski Reservoir Aquifer before liquidation of large cattle and swine farms (in 1989-1991) and after their liquidation (1994-1995). Examinations concerning the number of indicatory heterotrophic microorganisms on TGY medium showed fluctuations in the number (from some to several thousand CFU/1 cm3 of water) depending on the way of utilization of the soil and the research period. Gram-negative rods (44-79%) dominated in 241 water samples taken from wells and piezometric bore-holes in both research periods. Gram-positive coccus (3-32%) and cells rod-shaped (3-19%) were not so numerous. The strains: Achromobacter, Flavobacterium and Xanthomonas dominated among Gram-negative bacteria irrespective of the research period and group of wells. Gram-positive bacteria were mainly represented by: Bacillus, Sarcina and Micrococcus.
