The article's subject is the presence of satire in Tadeusz Rózewicz's poetry. In disagreement with critics who question the poetic nature of literary works featuring satire in its pure form, the authoress argues that Rózewicz includes purely satirical (or journalistic) poems in his books of verse in a conscious effort to broaden the scope of poetry. She also points out that the sort of criticism constitutive of a satirist has over the years become more and more pronounced in the poet's work.

The subject of analysis in the article is a relation between irony and satire understood as discursive practice. Putting under scrutiny the concept of the satirical text proposed by Paul Simpson in his work On the Discourse of Satire, the author argues that irony understood as a form of expression is not a constructive element of satire.

The author of the paper deals with an overview of reflection on censorship in the current literary theoretical discourse focusing on the Czech cultural context. He pays special attention to the two-volume monograph titled v Obecném záujmu / In Public Interest/ and the anthology of theoretical studies which were pubished under the title Nebezpečná literatura? /Dangerous Literature?/. He draws attention to the theoretical works by P. Bourdieu, J Butler and L. Losev. He puts individual theoretical findings into relation with contemporary poetics as it was formed by the canon of Socialist Realism (cryptic forms of Esopian language in the contemporary satire). He also pays attention to dispersed forms of censorship which formed the poetics of the 1970s and the 1980s during the period of so-called Normalization (the formation of parallel circulation).

Nineteenth century Slovak caricatures come from a wide range of political positions. The magazines Ježibaba supporting the Slovak New School and Rarášek belonging to the Slovak National Party were the most important representatives of political and social humour in the years 1870–1872. They had different approaches to drawing caricatures and their thematic starting points, by which both participated in shaping the political thought of the period. The intense aggressiveness of the drawings in Ježibaba may be seen as a demonstration of the political effort of the New School to establish a new political orientation. On the other hand, the artistically more conservative Rarášek opened social themes and brought systematic effort to the work of political journalism.

The article constitutes an analysis of the concept of satire as a discursive practice proposed by Paul Simpson. What the author considers the main forte of Simpson's model is its definition of the nature of satire without references to the categories of “satirical intent” and the “ideology” of the satirist. The author claims that such an approach allows a new perspective on the way literary satire is perceived.
