The article examines a) Rádl's concept of the responsibility of the intellectual for their society and b) his historical thought. The philosophical activism of this Czech biologist and philosopher (1873-1942), which certainly has something to do with influences from the 'philosophy of life', is put into relation with the traditional role of the writer as the nation's conscience, with the strong impression left by T. G. Masaryk, and of course with the interwar crisis of civilisation. Rádl not only disregards traditional conservative objections to the public engagement of intellectuals, but he directly defines philosophy from the positions of the ethics of responsibility. The conservative social democrat however essentially lacks an outline of historical evolutionary logic. Rádl's concept of history is modern insofar as it is based on the value relationship between the present and the amorphous past, but in the end he shies away from deriving from this conclusion the contingencies of an historical event or the subjectivity of our image of history. The ideas of the past 'provoke our participation'; on the other hand we make sovereign use of them for our own aims. Rather than pragmatism Rádl's concept of history is reminiscent of the neo-Kantian concept of the ordering of empirical material according to the apriori categories of Hermann Cohen.

Responsibility is the first and most important condition necessary for the media to be properly used. The statements pertains both to creators and recipients as well as to institutions that are standing by, being qualified to perform educational activities, such as the Church, the state, school, or family. The present paper is an attempt to look at the media from the responsibility perspective in the context of the teaching of John Paul II. The papal teaching reveals three aspects: first, it is about the responsibility of creators and editors for the media; second, it is about a responsible usage of the media; finally, it is about the social responsibility for the two above-mentioned aspects. Journalists are responsible for the shape and effects of their work; recipients are responsible for what they take advantage of and how; and yet, the state, the Church and family also take responsibility for everything that takes place in this respect in the closest community.

Twenty years have passed since the unification of Germany in 1990, during which time the inhabitants of this country have regained self-confidence as a nation and have started to create their national identity. The results of sociological research and commonness of national symbolism indicate a revival of national self-identification of the German nation. Political elites, in which a generation change has taken place, have assessed the social needs properly and now give the society a new ideological offer. However, the German raison d'état formulated by them is not always favorably received by the public, as in the case of declaration of particular responsibility for the stabilization activities in the world, a responsibility which rests with Germany affected by the Nazi past.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the preferred values and responsibility perceived in one's own action. The research sample consisted of 213 high school students (108 girls and 105 boys, mean age = 15.9 years). The participants were asked to describe their own good and bad actions and they filled in a value preference inventory. The participants either referred to the object of responsibility, e.g. they described the actions toward specific people, or they mentioned an internal rule according to which they interpret their actions. In girls, the values referring to the other persons had an effect on the actions. In boys, the value of working for society was important in the predicting actions. Our results point to the importance of context in moral development.

The main normative problem in the context of dual use is to determine the ethical responsibility of scientists especially in the case of unintended, harmful, and criminal dual use of new technological applications of scientific results. This article starts from an analysis of the concepts of responsibility and complicity, examining alternative options regarding the responsibility of scientists. Within the context of the basic conflict between the freedom of science and the duty to avoid causing harm, two positions are discussed: moral skepticism and the ethics of responsibility by Hans Jonas. According to these reflections, four duties are suggested and evaluated: stopping research, systematically carrying out research for dual-use applications, informing public authorities, and not publishing results. In the conclusion it is argued that these duties should be considered as imperfect duties in a Kantian sense and that the individual scientist should be discharged as much as possible from obligations which follow from them by the scientific community and institutions created for this purpose.

The authors emphasize the significant inconsistencies principles of research socialization of the economy and solidarity, studied by modern post-Soviet scientists, and at the same time on the gradual emergence of Western scientists on common principles and foundations in the development of SSE. Developments in the theory and methods of SSE increasingly argue for their application in economic practice and experience and the implementation of the SSE principles allow being optimistic about the implementation of these developments in the national economy.

The aim of the work is to discuss the workers' professional responsibility of the health care system. Proper exercising of the right to health and the right to protect health, first of all, depends on effective and stable law which would regulate the functioning of the health care system and on well prepared workers. Apart from the level of knowledge and factual preparation to work in the profession, the determinants of the workers' qualifications of the health care system are high sensibility, both ethical and moral. Actions or nonfeasances which determine professional responsibility of workers are characterized by infringement and they violate particular obligations. Responsibility of workers of health care is one of the mechanisms which should guarantee a satisfactory level of medical services. Its aim is to make the worker, who was proved to behave improperly, improve his/her actions, especially those serious ones and the ones which are repeated. Otherwise he/she could be temporarily or permanently deprived of his/her right to practice. The doctors who possess a diploma, but they do not have the right to carry the occupation are not subject to this mode. The range of doctors' professional responsibility is defined generally and the forbidden actions are not exactly described. Nurses and midwives bear the responsibility for the whole range of professional activity, including the field of relations nurse - patient - the members of the therapeutic team. The legal responsibility means the necessity of bearing the consequences provided for by legal regulations. Dissatisfaction with the health care system is justified but very often directed in an impropriate way. Surely, the quality of the doctors' or nursing practise should be constantly improved and while improving the conditions, the responsibility should increase.

Profit by all means is not considered the ultimate aim of today's organizations. The role of organizations has also transformed: today they are a part of social structures making influence on the society. At the same time they realize the importance of social opinion to their growth and turn to the media as a third party to form their image. This determines an attitude to creation of the organization reputation as a planned, strategic process. At the end of the 20th century the problem of information reliability and truthfulness became particularly acute, especially in advertising and public relations. The paper presents the key findings of a research on the situation of public relations in Poland. Ethical issues faced in this area are those that public relations is turning into an aggressive means to form and maintain one's image, and not a way to hear the organization's stakeholders.

The notion of public finance discipline refers to obeying the rules while managing public resources. It is mainly defined in the Act on Public Finance. For breaching these rules, strict discipline was set out in the Act on Responsibility for a Breach of Public Finance Discipline of 17 December 2004, amendments to which were passed on 19 August 2011 and introduced significant changes. The amended regulations entered into force on 11 February 2012. The article presents the reasons for the changes introduced to the regulations, as well as some of those changes that can positively influence the effectiveness of asserting responsibility, and the preventive and educational function of the regulations in the field. The article considers solutions that are important from the perspective of audit bodies which are obliged to notify of cases where public finance discipline could have been breached. The authors also describe proposals for potential further changes in these regulations.

The aim of the paper is to present Alain Finkielkraut’s work as rooted in philosophical thinking of Emmanuel Lévinas and Hannah Arendt. For this purpose authors emphasize the relationship between Finkielkraut’s analysis of the crisis of contemporary culture and his interpretation of Lévinas’s philosophical thought, as well as with Arendt’s. Authors focus on main concepts developed by Arendt and L´evinas, which, as they argue, became essential for Finkielkraut’s critical approach: otherness, responsibility, justice, understanding of politics, and public sphere. Authors argue also that Finkielkraut’s imaginative readings of Lévinas and Arendt are not only an important contribution to understanding of both thinkers but also testify to the originality of his work.

A journalist should always try to claim responsibility for his/her work. The present paper is an attempt to inspect their work in order to indicate at least some of the dimensions towards which a journalist should feel responsible. Freedom or responsibility, which of these is the main ethical characteristic of human being? In this matter Heidegger's 'Sein und Zeit' obviously favors freedom while responsibility is only of Dasein's possibilities of being.. It is absolutely fundamental, however, that from the very beginning of his philosophical journey Heidegger is convinced that there is one original obligation of human being's fate as a 'shepherd' of Being. The questioning of Being (from 'Sein und Zeit') finds its mirror image in the answering of Being. Heidegger's philosophy after 'the turn' (Kehre) accents the unity of being and thinking. Heidegger describes total closeness, when a man and Being are given to each other, as 'event' (Ereignis). The truth of Being, which appears in 'Ereignis' is no longer the object of human questioning. The man no longer can say: 'I ask', all he can say is: 'I am called'. Free from metaphysical thinking, he can reach his own essence in this relation and claim his being-himself (Selbstsein). First un favor of the existential freedom of Dasein, Heidegger gradually approaches the attitude of primary role to responsibility in human being's ethical characteristics.

History as a field of knowledge has been in retreat for several years. Little doubt, this problem is calling for separate considerations: why is this happening? One of the reasons is rooted in "historical policy" which has created a new "censorship" and promotes "researc hers" submissive to the decision-make group. Even though history should be a teacher of life, despite its mission it is treated as a "peddlar from whom you can order any merchandise" (prof. J. Szacki, Wokół etyki polskiego humanisty, 2010) [On the ethics of a Polish humanist]. Regardless of the turbulence, the author believes that history has its place in education, provided that the past is the subject of reflection, not of faith. If we do not understand the past, often complex and difficult, we cannot get rid of its burden. Respectively, instead of evading the mistakes once made, we will be repeating them, claiming it is our attachment to the tradi tion. The historian is not to offer a "good past" as a panaceum. Conversely, his vocation is to provoke the public to study history by putting forward important and courageous questions.

The paper presents Buber's and Wojtyla's conceptions of love and responsibility. For Buber love is the responsibility of 'I' for 'Thou'. The responsibility is identical with answering. The condition of love is the dialogical principle ('I-Thou'). Love and responsibility are impossible with the monological principle ('I-It'). Wojtyla shows different levels (metaphysical, psychological, ethical) and types of love (amor complacentiae, amor concupiscentiae, and amor benevolentiae). The responsibility is for him the consequence of the choice of the one type of love. Additionally, the paper presents affinities and differences in Buber's and Wojtyla's philosophy of love.

By virtue of humanity man ought to be a responsible person. It is primarily a responsibility towards one’s conscience, towards God, and towards other people. Responsibility for one’s words is understood as the responsibility for the spoken word, written word, the words declared and propagated in the media. Also, the responsibility for “being real” in all human „testimonies”. By reason of being a human, man is always a witness, i.e. a „bearer” of and a „participant” in values, especially the values of the humanity of one’s own and of others. His responsibility is thus rooted in human dignity.
