Tourism is a specific recreational form in the area of time and space relationship. Tourist leisure forms are included in physical activity and development, as well as, in mental activity and development, incorporating tourism such as hiking and trekking, physical recreation, sightseeing during trips, and also therapeutic forms. Tourism activity is generally considered in terms of particular activities chosen and undertaken outside the home, during the tourist migration. The aim of the conducted research was to define specific features of tourist-leisure migrations taken by Poznań agglomeration’s dwellers during the recreational forms of tourist activity. The proposed method was a model one because the most efficient theoretical-empirical research development strategy is in fact the method of reconstruction model creation. Whereas, in the tourism activity part of the research the authors decided to use a diagnostic survey (public opinion poll) method.

The aim of the article is to characterize activities undertaken in order to ensure the position of Poznań among European metropolises and to work out the principles of spatial development of the Poznań Metropolitan Area. The primary aim is to explain whether the authorities of the voivodeship and the city itself fulfilled the conditions necessary to strengthen the development of this area. We assume that the development of the Poznań Metropolitan Area is determined above all by the features of this territory – the existing path of growth of its metropolis, suggested solutions concerning internal organization, ability to create strategic goals and cooperation between territorial units within the area as well as co-operation with the region’s authorities. The Poznań Metropolitan Area has been developing for more than a decade. This area is characterized by intensive daily flows of people, commodities and information. Moreover, cooperation links are gradually formed in the economy, more intensive in the central zone. This area is the location of activities which supplement the metropolitan functions of Poznań as well as potential investments. Unfortunately, functional integration within the metropolitan area is insufficient and re-urbanization has not brought any spectacular effects so far.Activities of the authorities of Wielkopolskie Voivodeship and of the city of Poznań foster the development of the Poznań Metropolitan Area. All the strategies of regional development formulated so far have underlined the significance of the Poznań metropolis for the maintenance of the level of its competitiveness. Strategic aims of the development of the voivodeship, the Poznań Agglomeration and the city of Poznań are not contradictory. They take into account the importance of the development of the Poznań Metropolis in the plan of spatial development of the e. The plan of spatial development of the Poznań Metropolitan Area has already been prepared The main threat to the metropolitan path of development of Poznań and sustainable growth of the Poznań Metropolitan Area, including its central zone in the form of the Poznań Agglomeration, may be difficulties in a sufficiently fast implementation of the formulated strategic goals. Organizational and financial difficulties in implementation of successive projects may be responsible for the fact that the proposed visions of development of the Poznań Metropolis will remain impossible to attain.

The paper presents the process of building a 24-hour microscopic simulation model for the Poznan agglomeration with the use of the MATSim system. In the first part, the authors explain how the road network was created with the use of digital maps from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project. In next section, the trip generation, trip distribution and modal split processes are presented. The result of these steps are hourly OD matrices for the private car transport for each motivation. Next, the transformation of OD matrices into activity plans by applying land use data and traffic zones data is discussed. The last part of the paper contains the simulation results obtained in MATSim.

Objective: To assess the extent to which migrant workers employed by Polish companies adjust their skills to fit their employers’ needs. The study examines employers’ opinions about the competences of foreign workers employed in the Poznań area. Research Design & Methods: The data were collected with a survey and subjected to statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics and mathematical statistical methods were applied and presented. This is followed by a discussion of the results of previous empirical research in which foreign nationals self-assessed the match between their skills and the jobs they perform. Findings: Although a significant percentage of foreigners working in Poland are equipped with a high level of human capital, it is barely utilised by Polish enterprises. Implications / Recommendations: The employers do not recognise much of a skills mismatch. And even if they are aware of one, they are primarily shoring up their shorthanded workforce, not looking at the potential that could be utilized. The problem of skills mismatch among foreigner workers is exacerbated by Poland’s relative failure to exercise an integration policy. Contribution: The article argues for the need to undertake further in-depth research on the skills mismatch of foreign workers in Poland.
