This article presents the complicated history of Roman - Catholic bith, marriage and death record books from the region of the pre - war Luck diocesem situated in the area of the past Wolyn Region. The problem, which the author' s interest focuses on is the issue of re - vindication of the record books, which after 1945 happened to be owned by the Soviet Union. He also describes the attempts which have been undertahen from then on at their synthetic scentific description, which is of major importance to the Polish genealogists. Furthermore, the author discusses in a concise way the places of their present storage, among which he also mentions the Catholic University of Lublin, a place of archivisation of Wolyn birth, marrage and death record books poorly known to genealogists
