Interviews gathered in this section present multilateral vision of Polish Philology, regarded from various perspectives, that concern both chances and risks that Polish Philology is facing at the moment, traditional and modern approaches as two angles shaping its identity, changes in scientific, didactic and legal organization of studies that have either already become (or will become in the nearest future) its part. Speakers also attempt to indicate the importance of closer cooperation between Polish philologists in Poland and abroad in the process of ‘reconstructing’ the faculty and discipline. Attention has also been paid to the Congress itself as the speakers attempt to answer the question whether it has reached its goals and which postulate raised during the Congress should be regarded as the most important one. In the interview with Professor Danuta Opacka-Walasek the issue of organizing PhD studies and challenges that those responsible for this level of education face at the moment has been discussed. Professor Włodzimierz Bolecki on the other hand discussed the changed imple-mented by the new Law of Higher Education and its consequences for Polonists.

The article contains a brief survey of the history of mathematics education as a science abroad and points out how it has influenced the Czech mathematics education research. An emphasis is placed on research carried out within a PhD study at the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague. On the example of a concrete PhD Board some prerequisites of a successful existence of mathematics education as an independent discipline are summarised: active researchers in mathematics education, integration into the trends of foreign research, rigorous usage of existing research results, contact with boarder fields (mainly mathematics, pedagogy, psychology) and practice (teachers), creating a scientific community.

Many universities offer the PhD studies especially for persons appreciating scientific, pedagogic-educational and civic values. Targeting the values influences the research thoroughness, type of undertaken relation and sense of responsibility for the common good. The relation between the academic supervisor/promoter and PhD student bases on the personal and seminar meetings. The law of the high education regulates the type of courses and underling the necessity of the direct scientific tutoring and supporting in autonomous researching. Some of the PhD students criticises the relation of supervisor/promoter and PhD student. The another PhD students praise this relation. I have researched this relation from the PhD student’s view point. I have focused my attention on student’s expectations, choosing criteria of the academic supervisor/promoter, his/her characteristics, breakthrough moments and the ending of the relation.

Recently, interest in doctoral studies picked up in general, including among German studies students. As a result, the demand for teaching materials for doctoral students has increased. My own interest in third-level study has prompted me to undertake an analysis of certain teaching resources suitable for doctoral students. The aim of the research was to analyze one of the available, recently published textbooks for PhD students in order to review this publication from a didactic and content point of view. “Lehrmaterialien für Germanistik-Doktorandenkurse” (2021) is one of the most recent publications, which is why it is the subject of the review. It also stands out from other books for doctoral students in German studies, as it is the result of international cooperation between three universities from Poland, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. It is aimed at anyone interested in doctoral courses of German studies, regardless of their home country. Is the book able to simultaneously meet the needs of lecturers and doctoral students of German studies from different academic disciplines (literature, linguistic and cultural studies)? The results of the analysis show that the production of such thematically comprehensive book is feasible thanks to international cooperation. After the analysis, it can be concluded that this is a work that is useful for students of German studies regardless of their specialization.

When searching for the internal developmental dominants of the local societies, it is crucial to focus on highly-qualifid specialists with the scientifi degree. The reflctions presented in the article are focused on the models of obtaining the doctorate degree, indicating the barriers for further scientifi career of the doctors from the outside of the academic environments as well as their activity aiming at introducing the social and cultural changes. I do also try to create the typology of doctors inside the local societies. The said reflctions are related to the Polkowice sub-region and are the case study itself.
