The article concerns the works of Patricia Suárez, the action of which is set in stage or virtual space related to Poland in the first three decades of the 20th century. The central theme of these plays is human trafficking, in this case sexual trafficking of young, mainly Jewish women being in desperate straits in Poland or Russia, lured and forced to work in the brothels of Argentina. Instead of historical, social or moral issues, this dissertation aims especially at presenting the female figure from the perspective of its function in the dramatic structure. From the taxonomy of female figures, the article moves on to the analysis of these figures in their semantic and pragmatic sense. Their mode of existence (virtual or stage), the processes and the ways of their creation from the reader’s/spectator’s point of view are taken into consideration (form of presentation: physical description, personal life, actions and interpersonal relations). The syntactic and functional aspects of the female figures are analysed as well. In the conclusion, the place of the female figure in the ideological structure of the play is examined.
This article proposes an approach to the dramatic cycle Las polacas by Patricia Suárez from the perspective of symbolic violence, a term coined by Pierre Bourdieu, and its presence in the network of operations inherent to human trafficking. Through the studies of Eva Illouz and Sara Ahmed, the seductive aspect of marriage and the prom-ise of a happy life that the social discourse makes to women in order to control their bodies will be examined. In this sense, and drawing on Bourdieu's theory, the process of commodification of the female body and its circulation on the marital and symbolic market is analyzed. A particular focus is placed on how symbolic violence manifests itself in the context of human trafficking, both in the male-female and female-female relationships. Finally, special emphasis is placed on poverty as a key factor in symbolic violence.

El presente trabajo propone un acercamiento al ciclo dramático Las polacas de Patricia Suárez desde la perspectiva de la violencia simbólica, un concepto acuñado por Pierre Bourdieu, y su presencia en la red de operaciones propias de la trata de blancas. Con apoyo en los estudios de Eva Illouz y Sara Ahmed, se examina el aspecto seductivo del matrimonio y la promesa de una vida feliz que despliega el discurso social ante las mujeres con el objetivo de controlar sus cuerpos. En esta misma línea y recurriendo a la teoría de Bourdieu, se analiza el proceso de mercantilización del cuerpo femenino y su circulación en el mercado matrimonial y simbólico. Se resalta especialmente cómo se manifiesta la violencia simbólica en el contexto de la trata de blancas, tanto en la línea hombre-mujer como mujer-mujer. Finalmente, se pone un acento especial en la pobreza como un factor clave de la violencia simbólica.
