Chemical control of weeds in some environments and due to the condition and degree of weed-growth does not bring expected results. For that reason alternative methods have been searched for. Biological control of weeds has been traditionally perceived as reducing the agrophage population to such a level where they do not constitute a threat. In the present research, an attempt has been made to introduce Aglais urticae L. to control the population of Parietaria pensylvanica M. ex. Willd.

Parietaria pensvlvanica Mühlenb ex. Willd is a species nalive to North America, whose occurrence in Poland was first reported in Bydgoszcz in 1991. Its biology and ecology has been researched since 1996. The present paper discusses measurements and phenological observations carried out on four selected populations during the vegetation season in 1997. The aim of the research was to determine potentialities of the migration of P. pensylvanica from park habitats to segetal communities, on the basis of a defined life strategy of the examined populations. The analysis focused on the dynamics of density and bipniiiss as well as on the weight of 1000 nucules, against the habitat conditions. The findings demonstrated that the investigated species was characterised by a set of life strategy properties referred lo as C-S-R or S-R, and was subject to the "r"-type selection. P. pensylvanica has become an integral pari of the Bydgoszcz flora and is likely to expand into segetal communities of agricultural and vegetable crops.

Purietaria pensylvanica Mühlenb. ex Willid. jest gatunkiem pochodzącym z Ameryki Północnej, którego występowanie na obszarze Polski po raz pierwszy stwierdzono w Bydgoszczy w 1991 roku, a od 1996 roku prowadzone są badania nad jego biologią i ekologią. W pracy przedstawiono pomiary i obserwacje fenologiczne czterech wybranych subpopuiacji. prowadzone w sezonie wegetacyjnym 1997 roku. Celem badań bylo określenie możliwości migracji P. pensylvanica z siedlisk parkowych do zbiorowisk segetalnych, na podstawie określonej strategii życiowej subpopuiacji. Szczegółowa analiza dotyczyła dynamiki zagęszczenia i biomasy oraz masy 1000 orzeszków na tle warunków siedliskowych. Przeprowadzone badania pozwalają stwierdzić, że badany gatunek charakteryzuje zespól cech strategii życia typu C-S-R lub S-R i podlega selekcji typu "r". P. pensylvanica na stale zagościła we florze Bydgoszczy i w przyszłości może stać się elementem zbiorowisk segetalnych upraw rolniczo-warzywnych.

In 2001 two localities of Parietaria pensylvanica Mühl. ex Willd. were confirmed in Warsaw. The localities were discovered in 1998 and 1999 by D. I. Tretjakow. New localities were found in Warsaw, their distribution and description were given. It was discussed whether there are possibilities of this species to expand into segetal communities in Poland.
