In the last ten years, the global area of commercially grown, genetically modified (GM) crops has increased more than 50-times to over 90 mln hectares. GM plants are cultivated in twenty one countries (six European). Despite this high adoption rate and future promises, there is still a multitude of concerns about the impact of GM-crops on natural and agricultural environment. In this article, we present: a) current definition of crop co-existence, b) results of the studies on risk assessment and safe co-existence rules, as well as c) examples of wildernesses of public opinion.

The article presents an example of production planning system, implementing different rules in production planning, taking into account the load of work posts. The most important function of the system developed is the ability to automatically schedule the exact dates of commencement and completion of individual processes performance. The system also provides a review of production schedules in a single day, week, or month in the form of Gantt's charts. These graphs implement two approaches: allow you to view both the procurement time and the current load of machines. The system also provides many other features that allow you to follow the execution of the order, from its registration until the completion of it.

The concept of “sustainable development” and “sustainable economy” is analyzed. The Russian equivalent “sesteynovy” is suggested for the English term «sustainable». Needed features of SE such as renewable resources base, dematerialization, innovative orientation, close to nature, used processes and cycles, social orientation and so on are analyzed. Such directions for sustainable economy (SE) as (1) transformation of material-energy component; (2) improvement of information programs of economic systems; (3) improvement of synergetic base; (4) increase of self-organization level are formulated. The sustainable consumption as an important component of sustainable economy is studied. A comparative analysis of traditional (industrial) and sustainable economy is given. Preconditions for development of sustainable economy in Ukraine are investigated. Key components for knowledge formation in the field of sustainable economy such as the contents and principles of sustainable development and SE; greener demand and greener supply; social institutes and democratic values as preconditions of SE; anatomy of sustainable consumption; reproduction of human factors for SE; the best EU practices for SE development; future of SE are studied.

Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is the fundamental growth factor for T lymphocytes, both in vivo and in vitro. At our department, specific mouse T lymphocyte clones are used for the examination of antigenic structure of Toxoplasma gondii. Their culturing in vitro requires big amounts of IL-2. That is why we determined optimal conditions for producing crude IL-2 preparation, using recombinant myeloma line X63/0 IL-2 as the producer of IL-2 and cytotoxic lymphocyte line CTL-L as the indicator of IL-2 activity.

This article assesses efforts to develop 'open innovation'. First, open innovation is put in the framework of knowledge society. It is shown that the term open innovation refers to such different cases that it is better to assess them separately. Chesbrough's 'open innovation', the 'lead user' conception, the idea of 'commons-based-peer production' and 'interactive value production' is shortly explored. 'Incertitude' is overviewed as basic background that urges societal praxis to turn to open innovation. At the end the article, referring to an expert material worked out for the EC DG Research, called with abbreviation TEKSS, turns interest to extending open innovation by integrating concerned groups as innovation partners as engagement, i.e. as partners through the whole innovation process.

There is some evidence that the pathophysiology of schizophrenia is related to changes in the innate and adaptive immune systems. In an attempt to define a potential immunological dysfunction in schizophrenia, we measured the serum levels of several cytokines in the sera of 24 patients with paranoid schizophrenia and investigated the cytokine production in whole blood assays after stimulation in vitro with virus (Newcastle disease), phytohemagglutinin (PHA) or bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and compared them with healthy, normal controls. A significant increase of IL-6, IL-8 and IFN- gamma levels, but a decreased IL-10 level were observed in the sera of patients with schizophrenia. No significant changes in the serum levels of IL-2, IL-4, IFN-alpha and TNF-alpha were detected in these patients. When cytokine production in vitro was examined, a significant defect in PHA-induced IL-2, IL-4 and IFN-gamma, and in virus-induced IFN-alpha production, but no significant alterations in LPS-induced IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha production were observed. In summary, increased serum levels of some cytokines such as IL-6, IL-8 and IFN-gamma indicate an activation of the inflammatory response in schizophrenia, while the in vitro assay indicates significant changes in the Th1 (decreased production of IL-2 and IFN-gamma) and Th2 (decreased production of IL-4) cell system responses. The role of the defective IFN-apha production in the regulation of the imbalance between Th1 and Th2 cell system responses is suggested.

The assessment of the investments' effectiveness is a key element of investment processes. In order to be comprehensive and exhaustive, it should go beyond the scope of the microeconomic assessment and take into account the macroeconomic calculation of effectiveness. The prerequisite for the effectiveness of investment decisions implemented by private companies is the maximization of the investments return. When attempting to evaluate the effectiveness of investments, on the scale of the economy, it seems significant to look not only for the economic benefits but also for the social advantages that they generate. Undoubtedly, an increase of employment in the economy can be regarded as one of the latter and is a result of the strong correlation between the creation of jobs and economic growth, which in turn depends on the level of investments. However, one should remember that this relationship does not occur in every case; there is a certain level of investment rate, specific for each economy at a given time, which generates jobless economic growth. The reason for this phenomenon is the need to achieve the desired level of investments necessary for a given economy to recreate the previous capital-labour ratio as well as to implement modernisation investments which will result in the modernisation of the economy and an increase of labour productivity, and not in the employment growth. The purpose of this study is to assess the macroeconomic efficiency of investment in the selected EU economies.

This text offers a historical probe into the history of operas with an Orpheus theme. It maps out the individual epochs and introduces works which do not have an extensive tradition of reception and their productions appear in the repertoires of theatres only occasionally. The focus is especially on the period of Baroque where operas with an Orpheus theme are most heavily represented, and on 20th-century operas. On the other hand, this study does not pay attention to 19th-century opera because this mythological theme is not present in it. The exploration of the tradition of interpreting the mentioned opuses includes examples of contemporary productions.

The article focuses on gender aspects of globalisation and global restructuring and criticises the masculine bias of mainstream theories of globalisation. It is aimed at adding a global dimension to Czech gender studies. It looks at the way in which globalisation is gendered and based on gender ideologies, and how global restructuring affects and change gender systems. Primarily economic globalisation is addressed, and the changes in the organisation of labour globally are examined. Global production is dependent on cheap women's labour in the factories of multi-national corporations in the global south. The process of rendering labour more flexible and informal is associated with its feminisation. Care work and migration are also becoming feminised on a global scale. The article also analyses domestic work performed in the United States and Western Europe by women migrants from developing countries. All these processes are occurring within the context of neo-liberal policies and the changing role of states amidst a global restructuring, which needs to be examined from a gender perspective.

In the light of common doubts concerning efficient functioning of cereal farms with poor soil, the article attempts to assess their production potential, organisation of production, economic viability and environmental efficiency, as well as development opportunities. The division was made in three groups of cereal farms, selected by size of the cumulative point relative goodness indicator, that in 2005-2010 kept accounts for the Polish FADN. The first group included developing farms that obtained 449-518 points, the second group included problem farms (282-310 points), and the third group consisted in declining farms (207-234 points). The division was made in accordance with the Ward clustering method and k-means method, as well as the Statistica 8.0 programme. The results of the analysis may confirm the hypothesis that there are farms with poor soil where the poor quality of soil does not exclude efficient functioning and implementation of the long-term objective, i.e. not only existence but also development.

The aim of the research presented in the article was to determine the influence of pigs rearing on the natural environment and to assess sustainability of pig farms of great production scale. The analysis included 80 pig farms located in eight voivodeships of the greatest concentration of these animals’ rearing in Poland. The research showed that a level of production sustainability in pig farms is diverse. In part of farms, the norms concerning stocking density per 100 ha of agricultural area are not observed, pigpen areas in piggeries are being limited, monoculture is used in crop growing, and equipment of devices for animal excrement storing is too low in relation to needs. In order to sustain pig farms with regard to production, economic, social, and environmental issues, it is important to shape awareness of agricultural producers concerning the influence of agricultural activity on water, air and soil pollution and to increase legal pressures within the scope of observing requirements of natural environment protection.

The analyses presented in the article concerned changes in the level and structure of turnover, and price relations on the international soy market. It was stated that popularisation of genetically modified soy strains had no negative impact on the volume of international turnover. However, trade directions changed considerably, especially in the European Union Member States. While significance of import from USA has decreased, the meaning of import from Brazil has increased. At the same time, however, in accordance with the analyses of price transmission, in 2004/05-2011/12 the impact of price signals generated by the Brazilian market on the EU prices decreased in comparison to 1996/97-2003/04, while the impact of the American market prices increased. The reason for these changes might have been the amendments to regulations concerning cultivation of genetically modified soy in Brazil, and stabilisation of regulations concerning the genetically modified products market in the EU.

A characteristic feature of any excise tax is that it represents a significant component of price-settings. Expectations of the government, related to the change of the tax rate for this type of tax, consists in a presumption of the increased revenues to the state budget, even though it could bring so called lateral shift of the tax. Its impact would be a decrease in a consumption of the other commodities. The aim of article is to highlight some macroeconomic consequences of the Spirit market development in Slovakia, with an emphasis on increasing excise taxes on alcohol, its consumption, production and foreign trade balance. The attention of the authors is drawn to the fact that in addition to the high rate of tax affecting the amount of revenue collected by the state, other factors such as consumer saving, lifestyle change, counter advertising and the introduction of more stringent measures in relation to road traffic as well as pressure on imports of identical commodities from abroad, can equally affect state revenue.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of production resources management in ecological farms of different size area in the years 2007-2009. The surveyed farms were diversified by incurred costs as well as by production and economic outcomes. The fluctuation of production outcomes levels resulted also in fluctuation in the areas of: productivity resources, farms profitability and economic effectiveness of the capital resources in specific area groups. The indicated differences in the results achieved by groups of farms of different size was mostly conditioned by varied production organization and its scale, whereas the effectiveness differentiation in the surveyed years was influenced by the economic situation in agriculture. The noticeable trend was the increase in size of farms resulted in smaller productivity land and total assets. It was caused by several factors, such as organization of production, mainly in plant sector, eco-products prices and the fall of production intensity (the level of the material costs by 1 ha of agricultural land) in larger farms.

A coherence of the processes developmental of the Polish farming and the food industry were assessed. Dynamics of the evolution of production and the demand, the value added of both incomes of the agricultural entrepreneur and the food processing industry worker and agricultural prices, the food processing industry worker and the consumer were an object of analysis. A lack of developmental coherences of the processes of these two main elements of the food economy and a lack of correlation were stated between them. In the domestic scale (and local) are weakening the course doesn't also often confirm their interaction and the relation, but them of formulated thesis about the transfer of profits on the farming for the processing. Such a state requires including processes of developmental phenomena in examinations about global character and the verification of many theses proposed earlier by economic-agricultural sciences.
