The author presents the conditions for press and publishing activities in Gostynin, a town in the western part of the Mazowsze region, against a broader cultural background. She addresses economic, demographic and cultural conditions as well as discussing the activity of numerous political parties, societies and organisations that contributed to the town's cultural development. The role of local press ('Glos Gostyninski') is discussed in particular detail.
