According to the current research the fixedness of phrasemes is understood as relative. The study investigates the processing of creative idiomatic variability in Slovak and Russian languages. The authors identify various types of structural-semantic modifications on the example of the only one Slovak phraseme urobiť/spraviť capa záhradníkom in comparison with its Russian equivalent пустить козла в огород, which occur in a media text.
The author analyses the metaphorical verbo-nominal constructions “strácať čas” (waste time) and “zabíjať čas” (kill time) in Slovak and Slavic languages. By pointing out the existence of their equivalents in other European languages used in the close area (Hungarian, German, Romanian, Italian), they conclude that the constructions are not exclusively bound to the Slavic environment and call them arealisms. They also examine this structural-semantic model from the aspect of phraseological theory and lexicographical practice, finding out that the lexicographical characteristics of the phrases “strácať čas” (waste time) and “zabíjať čas” (kill time) in the dictionaries of the various Slavic languages are not identical. The essence of the phenomenon of time in general is also approached through the views of ancient philosophers and Christian scholars.

Abstract Based on data extracted from language corpora and the Internet, the paper analyses the changes in the use and semantic structure of the Czech words příslovečný, příslovečně and their equivalents in German (sprichwörtlich) and English (proverbial(ly)). The focus is both on their use in their different meanings ‘of a proverb’, ‘typical of proverbs’, ‘expressed in proverbs’; ‘(proto)typical’, ‘archetypal’; ‘well-known’, ‘commonly spoken of’, ‘characteristic’, and their different functions (the words being used as introducers of a variety of phrasemes, as pointers to fables, anecdotes, stories and prototypical situations). Special attention is given to the specific line of recent development in English where in some phrases the proverbial has been used as a replacement for offensive nouns.
