This paper presents an optimum computer-aided design of the I-beam grillage with metal plate flooring. The optimal design task is formulated as a nonlinear programming task. Components of the designing variable vector are structural connection coordinates of the I-beam grillage elements, their cross section parameters and thicknesses of flooring. Constraint system describes the regulation bounding conditions of the steel frame calculating. A purpose function is theoretical weight of the I-beam grillage. To solution of the optimization problem a method of unorthogonal projection of the purpose function gradient is used. Static analysis of the structure is executed with using finite element method at every step of the iterative process.
