According to the bible tradition, the name of a person determine its personality and dignity. Since the 18th century there is known commemoration of the most sacred name of Jesus in the liturgy of Roman Church. The essence of this devotion contains the liturgical texts assigned for that day. Especially many texts of the pre-Vatican liturgy point out the great importance of that day. After the Second Vatican Council the commemoration was removed from the liturgical agenda, but anew established in 2002. Analysis of the texts contained in missal and breviary show theological contain of that feast day. The base are words about the humiliation and glorification of the Servant of Yahwe derived from the second chapter of the Letter of Saint Paul to Philippians (Phil. 2:6–11) and from the Acts of Apostles. In that book it is said that the name of Jesus is the only one by which we can be saved (Acts 4:8–12). Liturgical texts from the Old Testament indicate the fulfilment of the prophecy in the name of Jesus. Different motivation of praising the name of Jesus is shown in the literature of Christian writers who demonstrate the beauty and sweetness of the name of Jesus. Before The Second Vatican Council, in the sermons of St. Bernard it is highlighted that this name is innate, not given. Saint Bernard from Siena said in his sermons that the name of Jesus is the name of His mercy. This text is the base of the Office of readings after the Second Vatican Council. Nowadays this feast is celebrated on 3rd January and links the mystery of the nativity and of the revelation of the Lord, pointing out the unity in the celebration of the mystery of Incarnation.

The problem connected with the issue of the participation of the Christian faithful in the liturgy of the Holy Mass has always been and still is the subject of many Church documents published by the Popes or the Roman Curia. In particular, term of the participation is identified with Pius X who his concern for an active, full and conscious participation expressed in motu proprio Tra le sollecitudini from 1903. This issue was also undertaken by his successors and subsequently by the Second Vatican Council. The legislator included the issue concerning the liturgy in canons: 835 § 4; 837; 899 § 2; 1247 of the Code of Canon Law of 1983. The analysis of the law shows that the participation in the liturgy is the realization of the office of sanctifying in the Church. All Christian faithful are obliged to this participation: bishops, presbyters, deacons, and the lays Christian faithful, particularly catholic parents. The participation in the liturgy is a consequence of belonging to Jesus Christ and the Church. Misunderstanding of participatio actuosa reduces it only to an external aspect of necessity of the general involvement and inclusion in the liturgy the greatest number of people, as often as possible and in front of the others. Meanwhile, the term ‘participation’ indicates an action, in which everyone should take part. Participatio actuosa in the liturgy is a main aim of the liturgical action and allows for the inclusion in celebrating liturgical action of God and the Church. In order to proper participating in the liturgy, the Church gives specific requirements to the Christian faithful, decided that they should not only participate in the liturgy actively but also consciously, in a full way, piously and fruitfully.

The Holy Eucharist, in which Christ the Lord Himself is present, offered and eaten, gives true life and growth to the Church founded by Him. The sacrament of the Eucharist, in its sacrificial dimension, makes present the one sacrifice of Christ the Savior which was accomplished in the Paschal Mystery. The Church, as the Mystical Body of Christ, in every Eucharistic celebration celebrated in the community of the faithful, builds a spiritual bond known as communio. The Eucharistic Sacrifice becomes for the faithful in their daily lives a sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

In education, St. John Bosco (1815 -1888) drew attention to the harmonious growth of man. Among the proposed measures, the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist occupy a fundamental place. By breaking with sin, the first constitutes a means for restoring communion with God. A key role in this process is played by repentance, confession and the resolve to improve. Extremely important is the person of the confessor, who in the name of Christ forgives sins. The Eucharist serves to maintain communion with God. He, as food working in the juvenile soul, bestows on the youth the strength to overcome any difficulties. He fills them with a light and power for the inner transformation of their wills towards seeking good. Jesus shapes the soul of a young person because he transforms the person who accepts Him into Himself.

Analysis of the Church’s documents shows a continuity of the Church’s teaching, and at the same time its development. The constant element of the Church’s teaching from the Council of Trent on the issue of the aim of celebrating the Eucharist has been pointing to the sacramental actualization of Christ’s only sacrifice for the lives of the faithful, who include their spiritual offerings into this actualization. Owing to this the Holy Mass is both Christ’s and the Church’s sacrifice. The Eucharist is fulfilled in heavenly liturgy. Since Pius XII’s encyclical Mediator Dei the Church has been putting more stress to the Eucharist’s ecclesiogenic aim. This teaching reaches its peak in John Paul II’s encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia. Since Pius XII’s encyclical the Church’s ever greater care has been seen for the participation of the faithful in the Eucharist.

In order to show the role of canon law in the liturgical formation of the faithful, the author undertakes an interdisciplinary reflection (philosophy, theology, legal sciences) on the understanding of law. Analysing the existing definitions of canon and liturgical law, she notes the positivist approach in this field. Then, on the basis of metaphysics and Thomism, she proposes a different view of law, canon law and liturgical law. She also notices the presence of Roman law in the church's legal culture. The legal formation of the faithful, based on such foundations, will allow for a deeper understanding and a better experience of the liturgy.

W celu ukazania roli prawa kanonicznego w liturgicznej formacji wiernych autor podejmuje interdyscyplinarną refleksję (filozofia, teologia, nauki prawne) nad rozumieniem prawa.

The approval that was expressed after the Vatican Council II had reintroduced common prayer, confirmed its significant role in the liturgy of the Holy Mass. In the article an analysis is made of common prayer as the prayer of the faithful. The roots of common prayer and its development in the first centuries are shown. It has always had the character of the prayer of the faithful – said by the christened ones; sometimes penitents were not admitted to it. Along with the decline of the catechumenate, part of the intentions of the prayer of the faithful were taken over by the Gelasian litany ad introitum, which was then reduced to the phrase Kyrie eleison. Other calls of common prayer have found their equivalents as intercessory prayers in the canon of the Holy Mass. Relics of common prayer were preserved in the form of “prayers after the sermon”. The lack of common prayer in the Holy Mass gave rise to its substitutes in folk religiousness. The post-Council liturgy shows common prayer as a prayer actualizing the faithful’s universal priesthood. The rites in the missal, emphasizing the role of the priest who directs the prayer, at the same time raise the status of the participation of the deacon and the laity in them. The author of the article also cites some liturgists who considered common prayer a separate part of the Holy Mass between the liturgy of the word and the liturgy of the Eucharist. Other liturgists distinguish the liturgy of love in the Holy Mass that consists of common prayer and preparation of the offertory – the spiritual and material gifts. Although these conceptions have not been accepted, they shed important light on the essence of common prayer. A careful and profound preparation of common prayer is an important task for liturgical formation.

The work aims to show the relationship that occurs between the church authority and the celebration of the Eucharist. It is worth emphasizing that concepts such as potestas, auctoritas or iurisdictio are still at an early stage of research development, and are inextricably linked to the mission of preaching the Gospel and administering the sacraments, and constitute a specific heritage of the legal doctrine of the Church from which it is difficult to cut off when wanting to describe the issue in a canonical manner celebration of the sacrament of the Eucharist. In addition, canonical concepts such as bring, right, authorization, or duty allow a better understanding of the nature of the power necessary to celebrate the Holy Mass.
