This article aims to identify the specific features of local financial crisis (stress). As an example for analysis, the author uses the Polish local government sector. The analysis relates to changes in the sector’s budgetary revenue and expenditure, limitation of local authorities’ financial autonomy, the deepening fiscal imbalance experienced by them, and their rapidly growing level of debt and its consequences.
