Schelling presents the existence of God’s internal duality between ground and existence as the only real starting point for the true explanation of the phenomena of evil and human freedom. We will explicate here the essential relation between the reality of evil and the constitution of a system of freedom. Since the meta-physical monism that Schelling attributes to Spinoza, and later also to Hegel, cannot explain the subsistence of evil, subsumed in a whole or reality equivalent to the good or perfection, neither can account for freedom considered as the capacity of individual human beings. The broad link connecting the duality of ground and existence, and human freedom, as well as the way in which this new duality negatively impacts the concept of rationality is finally elucidated.

The purpose of this manuscript is to systematize methodological approaches to examine the duality of time in economic research. The main objectives of this paper can be considered as the study of researchers views on the nature of time duality at all, its manifestation in the economic theory, comparison of different visions about the impact of the time duality problem on contemporary development of economic system. This feature of the time effect on the economic processes has several associated symptoms, in particular: time-duration and time-order; basics of economic laws and limiting factor in the space-time development; qualitative and quantitative property; time as a relative definitions and categories and time as a specific measurement values; short-term and long-term phenomena; profit maximization problem and cost-minimization problem; time as an astronomical (calendar) and functional time; time as an interval duration and the irreversibility of its passage.

By analogy with biological and physical systems the duality of economic systems passed through hereditary memory is studied. In particular, the parallels between the economic and biological systems concerning the information duality – the ability to carry stationarity (dynamic stability of the state) on the individual-level (species, economic agents) and ensure the variability in systems development on the population level (population, industries). By analogy with physical systems dualism of economic systems is analysed. It is an economic entity that simultaneously has properties of: a) discrete units – corpuscles, the coordinates of which can be uniquely identified within the space and time as a certain point; and b) a field entity, which is significantly extended in space and spread over time.

The article is based on the hypothesis that Europe has been historically and permanently “divided” into two parts. Four historical-geographical aspects of this duality are distinguished: cultural, economicsocial, political, and ethnic. To examine and džine duality, specific indicators are used. Duality is underwood as a complex and dynamic phenomenon that changes over the time. Conclusions summarize briefly the historical synthesis.

The present article addresses the duality of female protagonists created by Andreï Makine, a contemporary Russian-born, French-language author. Focusing on the writer’s four early novels and using psychoanalysis and sociology as analytical tools, I place the whores and the saintly mothers populating Makine’s works in the Russian cultural context, at the same time arguing that such polarised and unavoidably stereotypical representation of women stems from the author’s desire to accommodate his work to his prospective reader’s necessarily limited horizon of expectations. I also postulate that the inherent ambiguity of some heroines who oscillate between vice and virtue or, to use Freudian terminology, between the heimlich and the unheimlich, reflects the problematic identity of Makine’s male protagonists who ceaselessly hesitate between loyalty to Mother Russia and admiration for the West. Thus, the woman’s wavering between a homely and an uncanny figure undoubtedly mirrors Russia’s perennial struggle for self-definition as illustrated by the conflict between Westernisers and Slavophiles, recently revived as that between the advocates of Russia’s opening to the West and the Eurasianists who are nostalgic for their country’s isolation imposed by Communism.
