The level of knowledge about foreign travels of inhabitants of the Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth has risen owing to historical sources published both in the form of critical source editions and scientific studies. One of the most interesting documents which allows us to learn about the role of the book and the development of reading culture among Early Modern travellers is the catalogue of books which Seweryn Rzewuski, a Polish politician and magnate, took with him during his journey in 1778. The article presents the politician not as one of the leaders of the Targowica Confederation, but from a slightly different angle. The archival inventory of the travel library of Rzewuski constitutes the unique source of its kind; that is why, it is worth examining only to show the variety of interests of this traveller. Presenting his political views and the conscious selection of books to read, he seems to have a complex personality standing on the border between the mentality of a Sarmatian pilgrim and an enlightened traveller.

Das Wissensniveau über den Verlauf, die Bedeutung und die Bedingungen für die ausländischen Reisen der Bürger der alten Rzeczpospolita stieg eindeutig dank der Veröffentlichung der historischen Quellen sowohl im Rahmen der kritischen Quelleneditionen als auch der wissenschaftlichen Bearbeitungen. Eines der Dokumente, die für die Erkenntnis der Rolle des Buches und der Entwicklungsdynamik der Lesekultur unter den neuzeitlichen Reiseberichten am interessantesten sind, ist der Katalog von Büchern, die von Seweryn Rzewuski, dem aus der Geschichte sehr gut bekannten Hochadeligen und polnischen Politiker, 1778 auf Reisen mitgenommen wurden. Der Artikel bietet die Gelegenheit, seine Gestalt näher darzustellen, und zwar nicht nur aus der Sicht seiner Aktivität einer führenden Gestalt während der Konföderation von Targowica. Das Archivinventar der Reisebibliothek Rzewuskis ist eine einmalige Quelle, aufgrund deren die Interessenvielfalt eines altpolnischen Reisenden darzustellen ist. Durch die zum Ausdruck gebrachten Ansichten und politischen Einstellungen wie auch durch die bewusste Lektürenauswahl erscheint seine Gestalt als eine innerlich zusammengesetzte Persönlichkeit an der Grenze zwischen der Mentalität und dem Ideenprogramm eines sarmatischen und eines aufgeklärten Reisenden.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie komunikacyjnych uwarunkowań i zależności w społeczeństwie informacyjnym, z uwzględnieniem roli biblioteki akademickiej. Punktem wyjścia jest tradycyjne pojmowanie procesu komunikacyjnego jako z jednej strony sposobu przekazywania informacji, z drugiej, nawiązywania relacji nadawczo-odbiorczych. W horyzoncie rozważań znalazła się analiza funkcjonowania biblioteki w społeczeństwie sieci, i wpływ elektronicznych narzędzi przekazywania informacji na jej działalność. Artykuł ma wskazać powiązania pomiędzy tradycyjnymi i wirtualnymi sposobami porozumiewania się oraz podkreślić rolę komunikacji w przyszłym rozwoju biblioteki.

The aim of the article is to present communication conditions and relations in the information society taking into account the role of a university library. The starting point is to understand the communication process on the one hand as the manner to transmit information, and on the other hand as the way to create sending-receiving relations. The author analyzes the functioning of the library in the Internet society and the influence of electronic devices on its activity. The aim of the article is to show the relations between traditional and virtual manners of communication and to underline the role of communication in the future development of the library.

Das Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist die Schilderung der kommunikativen Bedingungen und Abhängigkeiten in der Informationsgesellschaft mit Berücksichtigung der Rolle einer akademischen Bibliothek. Der Ausgangspunkt ist wie immer das Verständnis des Kommunikationsprozesses einerseits im Sinne von Informationsvermittlung, andererseits von Gestaltung der Beziehung zwischen Sender und Empfänger. In den Überlegungen fanden sich die Analyse der Tätigkeitsbereiche einer Bibliothek im Rahmen einer Netzgesellschaft sowie der Einfluss der e-Werkzeuge auf die Bibliotheksaufgaben während der Informationsvermittlung. Der Beitrag soll auf die Verbindung zwischen der tradierten und der virtuellen Kommunikation hinweisen sowie die Rolle der Kommunikation in der künftigen Entwicklung der Bibliotheken betonen.

Biblioteka w Eutin obchodziła w roku ubiegłym swój skromny jubileusz, ale jednocześnie zwraca uwagę 25 lat istnienia jednostki naukowej zajmującej się historią i kulturą podróżowania. W maleńkiej miejscowości na północy Niemiec istnieje nie tylko zwracający na siebie uwagę badaczy zbiór liczący 18 tys. tomów dzienników, wspomnień, oryginalnych rękopisów i druków, zbiór map i atlasów (ponad 5 tys.) na różnych nośnikach informacji. Dostępna jest tam także, powstała wysiłkiem Wolfganga Griepa, ciągle uzupełniana bibliografia literatury i źródeł znajdujących się w innych zbiorach, wymieniająca obecnie 24 tys. tytułów.

The Eutin library celebrated its modest jubilee last year but at the same time it draws attention to the 25 years of the existence of a scientific unit dealing with the history and culture of traveling. In a tiny town in the north of Germany, the library stores the attention-grabbing collection of 18 thousand volumes of diaries, memories, original manuscripts and prints, a collection of maps and atlases (over 5,000) on various information carriers. What is also available there is Wolfgang Grieg’s constantly updated bibliography of literature and sources found in other collections, currently including 24 thousand titles.

Die Bibliothek in Eutin feierte im vorigen Jahr ihr bescheidenes Jubiläum, doch sind es schon 25 Jahre, die seit der Gründung dieser wissenschaftlichen Einrichtung, welche sich mit der Geschichte und Kultur der Reisenden beschäftigt, vergingen. In einer kleinen Ortschaft in Norddeutschland stößt man nicht nur auf einen wissenschaftlich bemerkenswerten Bestand mit 18 tausend Bänden von Tagebüchern, Erinnerungen, originellen Manuskripten und Drucken sowie Sammlungen von Karten und Atlanten (über 5 tausend) auf verschiedenen Datenträgern. Man findet dort auch eine von Wolfgang Griep angefangene und ständig ergänzte Bibliografie der Literatur und der Quellen (heutzutage mit über 24 tausend Literaturangaben), die sich in anderen Bibliotheksbeständen befinden.
